About Mothercraft

Mothercraft Ottawa is a non-profit multifaceted family support agency offering a wide array of programs for children and families from pregnancy to school age. Mothercraft has been supporting and meeting the needs of families and care providers in our community since 1944.

We offer early learning programs and services that support childhood development and licensed childcare programs for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years. Mothercraft Ottawa’s childcare programs are provided in a centre, in a school or in a caregiver’s home and are available throughout the year.

We offer a comprehensive range of support services for parents, including prenatal classes, birth companion support, drop-in play groups and parenting workshops. As an EarlyON Child and Family Centre, we offer programs and workshops that support parents and caregivers in all aspects of early child development.

Role Summary

We are seeking a dynamic Manager, Human Resources to lead our HR function and initiatives with precision, and a proactive mindset. As a member of our Management Team, you will serve as the primary HR contact for all managers and employees, providing expertise across recruitment and onboarding, records management, employee relations, compensation and benefits, WSIB administration, and HR best practices.

Your broad HR knowledge will help our organization respond effectively to evolving business needs. You will have the prospect to make a meaningful impact by shaping HR strategies, strengthening HR operations, and cultivating an engaging workplace that supports employee growth and engagement.

This role is well suited to an HR professional with a solid generalist background who is comfortable working independently, driving HR operational excellence, and taking ownership of the full HR function.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead full-cycle recruitment, including sourcing candidates through various platforms, conducting interviews, preparing employment contracts,



and coordinating employee onboarding.
- Manage employee relations by addressing concerns promptly, facilitating conflict resolution, and promoting positive communication across teams.
- Lead and support the process related to performance management
- Manage employee records and ensure HR practices and documentation comply with applicable legislation and company policies.
- Administer the company’s employee group benefits program and serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries.
- Develop, review, and update employment policies to support organizational needs and best practices.
- Partner with the management team to develop and implement employee engagement initiatives, workshops, training programs, and retention strategies.
- Manage the employee offboarding process, including voluntary and involuntary terminations of employment.
- Manage Workers’ Compensation (WSIB) claims and related accommodations, ensuring appropriate documentation, communication, and follow-up.
- Collect and analyze HR data to identify trends, support decision-making, and recommend process improvements.

Qualifications & Experience · Minimum 5 years experience in human resources with a strong background in recruiting, employee relations, workplace accommodations, absence management and HR administration.

· Solid knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

· Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

· Working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and all related regulations.

· Experience in process improvement and implementing best practices.

· Proficiency in data analysis skills for collecting insights that drive decisions related to workforce planning, budgeting, etc.





· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently

· Attainment of HR designation – CHRP or CHRL – an asset

· Previous experience in a not-for-profit environment an asset

Work Environment

- Fast-paced office environment with shifting demands and competing priorities
- Frequent interaction with employees, families, children
- Extended periods of sitting and computer work.
- This is an in-office role at our Head Office (Westboro)
