About Tutor Doctor Richmond Hill
Tutor Doctor Richmond Hill provides personalized 1:1 tutoring to students across Richmond Hill, Vaughan and surrounding communities.
We are looking for an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with classroom teaching experience in Ontario and a robust background in Mathematics to provide individualized tutoring to students.
This is an excellent opportunity for an OCT who enjoys working one-on-one with students and wants the flexibility of part-time tutoring.
The Role
As an OCT Math Tutor, you will provide personalized Mathematics instruction based on each student's grade level, current ability, learning needs and academic goals.
Students may require support with:
- Elementary Mathematics
- Grade 7–8 Mathematics
- Grade 9 Mathematics
- Grade 10 Mathematics
- Academic Mathematics
- Applied Mathematics
- Homework and assignments
- Test and exam preparation
- Foundational math skills
- Problem-solving and mathematical reasoning
- Study skills and organization
Your assignments will be matched to your demonstrated teaching experience and areas of Mathematics expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging and structured 1:1 Mathematics tutoring sessions
- Teach according to the Ontario Curriculum
- Identify gaps in a student's mathematical understanding
- Develop individualized approaches to address those gaps
- Explain mathematical concepts clearly and in different ways when needed
- Support students with classroom work, homework, assignments and assessments
- Prepare students for tests and exams
- Develop mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Help students become more confident and independent learners
- Adapt instruction to different learning needs and abilities
- Provide brief feedback following tutoring sessions
- Communicate professionally with parents and the Tutor Doctor team
- Maintain punctuality, reliability and professionalism
Required Qualifications
- Current Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification
- Teaching experience in an Ontario school
- Strong Mathematics teaching background
- Knowledge of the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum
- Experience working with students in a classroom or tutoring environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt instruction to individual students
- Reliable transportation for in-home assignments when required
- Professional and dependable
Strongly Preferred
- Experience teaching Mathematics at the Grade 7–10 level
- Experience with both Academic and Applied Mathematics
- Experience supporting students who are struggling with foundational concepts
- Experience preparing students for EQAO, tests or exams
- Experience differentiating instruction for students with different learning needs
- Experience providing 1:1 or small-group instruction
What We're Looking For We are looking for an educator who can do more than simply help a student complete their homework.
The ideal tutor can identify why a student is struggling,
break concepts down into understandable steps, and help the student develop the skills and confidence to solve problems independently.
You should be comfortable adjusting your teaching approach based on the student in front of you.
Schedule
Tutoring assignments are primarily available during:
- Weekday afternoons and evenings
- Weekends
Tutors can indicate their preferred availability and geographic area.
Location
Tutoring may take place
- In the student's home
- Online
- At another mutually agreed-upon location
