We are looking to expand our mechanical design capabilities at SMcN and are hiring for multiple roles. We have opportunities for individuals at different stages of their careers - from those looking to build their technical skills with the support and mentorship of an experienced team, to seasoned professionals ready to take on greater project responsibility. Depending on your experience, skills, and interests, your role may include working within our collaborative design team, supporting Project Managers with mechanical design and project delivery, or taking greater ownership of design coordination, client and consultant communication, and construction administration.

Position Type: Full Time & Permanent

Office Location: Langford, BC

Base Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $100,000.00, annually. Compensation will reflect each candidate’s experience, skills, education, and qualifications.

You Will

- Work within the team to design building mechanical systems using Revit and AutoCAD
- Support the Project Managers and coordinate designs internally and with other engineering disciplines
- Perform system design (heating/cooling) calculations using Excel & simulation software
- Perform plumbing service calculations
- Assist with initial site visits and construction field reviews
- Contribute to maintaining and developing quality control practices




- Manage a workload consisting of multiple concurrent projects under the direction of the Project Managers and with the support of the Design Team
- Perform various other duties assigned by the Project Managers and Leadership.

You Bring:
- 2+ years of direct experience in mechanical engineering or building systems design.
- A diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, a degree in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Professional registration or eligibility for registration with EGBC is valued.
- Industry related experience using Revit and/or AutoCAD
- Experience with designing plumbing systems (domestic water, sanitary, storm, and gas), HVAC and hydronic systems, fire protection systems, heating and cooling load calculations.
- Experience with energy analysis and modelling is an asset
- Operational knowledge of Windows and Office programs (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
- The ability to read construction drawings or construction experience
- Working knowledge of applicable BC building and plumbing codes, standards, and industry guidelines, including relevant ASHRAE standards
- Experience in the K-12 Education sector is an asset
- Experience coordinating a team is an asset

Additional Requirements:
- You must be legally permitted to work in Canada
- Class 5 driver’s license & vehicle is an asset
- Open to travelling (across BC)
