United Specialty Metals Inc. (USMI) is a growing full-service structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication and installation company based in Whitby, Ontario.

We are looking for an experienced Metal Fabrication Detailer to join our team. We are open to candidates with intermediate or senior-level experience who have a solid understanding of structural steel and miscellaneous metals and are looking to build a long-term career with a growing company.

Position Responsibilities

- Prepare detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings and erection drawings for structural steel and miscellaneous metals.
- Detail stairs, railings, platforms, ladders, mezzanines, catwalks, bollards, guards and other miscellaneous metal components.
- Interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- Produce accurate fabrication drawings, including dimensions, connections, welds, materials and finishes.
- Work closely with project managers, estimators, engineers, fabricators and installers.
- Review drawings for accuracy, constructability and potential fabrication or installation issues.
- Prepare material and cutting information for the fabrication shop.
- Coordinate revisions and respond to RFIs and project changes.
- Ensure drawings are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Assist with improving detailing and fabrication processes as the company continues to grow.

Qualifications & Experience

- 2+ years of experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals or metal fabrication detailing for an Intermediate candidate.
- 5+ years of experience preferred for a Senior candidate.
- Strong understanding of structural steel and miscellaneous metal fabrication and installation.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings.




- Experience producing detailed shop and fabrication drawings.
- Solid knowledge of steel sections, plate, HSS, connections, welding and fabrication methods.
- Proficiency with Tekla Structures, AutoCAD or similar detailing software.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with project management and fabrication teams.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
