Beyond Disability Services is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our growing multidisciplinary clinical team.
The Occupational Therapist will provide assessment, consultation, intervention, and clinical guidance to support children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, and other developmental or functional support needs.
The successful candidate will help clients develop greater independence and participation in everyday activities by addressing areas such as sensory regulation, fine motor skills, self-care, daily living skills, functional routines, environmental adaptations, and community participation.
This role offers an opportunity to work within a growing community-based organization alongside Behaviour Analysts, Instructor Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Communicative Disorders Assistants, developmental support staff, families, and other professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct occupational therapy assessments to identify clients’ strengths, needs, functional abilities, and barriers to participation.
- Develop individualized occupational therapy goals and treatment plans based on assessment findings and client priorities.
- Provide direct occupational therapy intervention to children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities.
- Support the development of fine motor, visual-motor, coordination, self-care, and functional daily living skills.
- Assess and support sensory processing and regulation needs, and develop practical strategies for use across home, program, school, and community environments.
- Support clients with activities of daily living, including dressing, feeding, hygiene, toileting, meal preparation, and other functional routines where clinically appropriate.
- Recommend adaptive equipment, environmental modifications, visual supports, and other accommodations to increase independence and participation.
- Support clients in developing skills related to community participation, leisure, vocational readiness, and independent living where applicable.
- Provide consultation and practical strategies to families, caregivers, and staff to support consistency across environments.
- Collaborate with the broader multidisciplinary clinical and program team to ensure coordinated and individualized care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences, clinical meetings, and care planning as required.
- Monitor client progress and adjust intervention plans based on clinical response and changing needs.
- Complete timely and accurate assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, consultation notes, and other clinical documentation.
- Maintain professional standards related to consent, privacy, documentation, boundaries, and client safety.
- Provide clinical recommendations to program staff while maintaining appropriate OT scope of practice.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of occupational therapy services within Beyond Disability Services.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent recognized qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Registered and in valuable standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
- Eligible to practise Occupational Therapy in Ontario.
- Professional liability insurance as required by the regulatory college.
- Experience working with children, youth, and/or adults with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, or complex developmental needs is considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of sensory processing, self-regulation, fine motor development,
activities of daily living, adaptive strategies, and functional skill development.
- Experience with feeding, toileting, assistive devices, or environmental adaptations is considered an asset.
- Strong clinical reasoning, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a respectful, person-centred approach.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
