About Us
At Uptown Montessori, located in the heart of North York, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing, respectful, and stimulating Montessori environment for children to explore, grow, and thrive. Guided by the Montessori philosophy and the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), we support the holistic development of each child and create a learning space that fosters independence, curiosity, and confidence.
We are currently seeking passionate and dedicated on call Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE) and Early Childhood Assistants to join our collaborative team of professionals.
Position Summary
As an RECE/ECA in our Montessori environment, you will work closely with Montessori-trained educators to plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate programming that supports each child’s growth, independence, and well-being. You will play a key role in fostering respectful, responsive, and inclusive relationships with children and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement programming that aligns with the Montessori method and Ontario’s HDLH pedagogy.
- Observe, document, and assess children’s developmental progress and use this to inform individualized learning opportunities.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment that meets all Ministry of Education, Toronto Public Health, and CCEYA licensing requirements.
- Support the preparation and use of Montessori materials that promote self-directed learning.
- Build nurturing, responsive, and inclusive relationships with children and families.
- Collaborate with other educators and staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive classroom community.
- Participate in ongoing career development, reflective practice, open houses, and team meetings.
- Ensure all policies, procedures, and legislative requirements are followed (CCEYA,
College of ECE Code of Ethics and Standards, etc.).
Qualifications
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).
- Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution.
- Strong understanding of the Montessori philosophy or willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of Ontario’s How Does Learning Happen?, ELECT, and CCEYA.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
- Current and valid Vulnerable Sector Check (Police Record Check).
- Up-to-date immunizations and health documentation as required by the Ministry of Education.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Preferred (Assets, Not Required)
- Montessori training or certification (e.g., AMI, MACTE, MWEI).
- Experience working in a Montessori or inquiry-based learning environment.
- Knowledge of Montessori curriculum and documentation practices.
