Duties and responsibilities:
The Orthopaedics Utility Clerk supports clinicians and technicians in providing equipment to clients. The position operates department tools, handles materials and components, prepares prescriptions for mailing, and cleans and refurbishes equipment for reuse.
Duties include
- Operate and use department tools, materials, and components in accordance with established procedures.
- Assist clinicians and technicians with department tasks related to providing equipment to clients.
- Prepare and fill prescriptions for mailing.
- Clean and refurbish equipment for reuse, including the use of a pressure washer and other cleaning equipment.
- Lift, move, and push equipment, and work safely in workshop, warehouse, and wash-bay areas.
- Follow infection prevention, chemical handling, and workplace safety procedures, including use of personal protective equipment when required.
- Complete repetitive tasks accurately, follow precise instructions, and reprioritize work as needed.
Qualifications:
Education
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
Skills:
- Experience using power tools and hand tools is required.
- Valuable hand skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to follow established procedures and work independently with minimal supervision once tasks are assigned.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with clinicians, technicians, and other staff.
- Ability to multitask and frequently reprioritize workload.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including frequent standing, walking, lifting, moving, and pushing equipment.
- Ability to work in workshop and warehouse settings where there may be noise, seasonal temperature changes, confined spaces, cleaning chemicals, contaminated equipment, and slippery surfaces.
- Willingness to complete job-specific training after hire, including program policies and procedures, equipment types, cleaning techniques, and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System certification.
