Because our clients rely on us to keep their operations moving, we are seeking a dedicated Overhead Crane Technician who thrives on the road and enjoys solving complex mechanical and electrical challenges.
Position Overview:
This is a high-travel, field-based role. As an Overhead Crane Technician, you will travel extensively to client sites to perform inspections, preventative maintenance and emergency repairs. This position is ideal for a self-motivated technician who loves autonomy, enjoys a changing daily work environment, and is comfortable with frequent overnight stays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel extensively to customer industrial facilities, including overnight and multi-day stays.
- Perform mandated safety inspections, structural assessments, and preventative maintenance on cranes, hoists, and material handling systems.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical and electrical components, including 3-phase motors, brakes, gearboxes, control panels, and VFDs.
- Respond to critical emergency breakdown requests at client sites, sometimes on short notice or as part of a rotating on-call schedule.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and technical manuals independently in the field.
- Document all service work, safety checklists, and parts used
- Maintain a company-issued service vehicle, ensuring it is properly stocked with necessary parts, tools and safety gear.
- Tow company-issued trailer and scissor lift.
Travel & Work Conditions:
- Daily travel throughout the lower mainland
- Frequent overnight travel throughout the province: Expect to be out of the lower mainland 1 to 2 weeks a month.
- Flexible hours: Travel schedules may vary based on emergency breakdowns and scheduled plant shutdowns.
- Working environments: Must be comfortable working at heights, in heavy industrial settings (foundries, mills, manufacturing plants), and under varying weather conditions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 2–3 years of hands-on experience in overhead crane maintenance, hoist repair, or industrial field service is preferred but not required.
- Strong background in industrial electrical systems (3-phase power, control wiring, troubleshooting PLCs/VFDs) and mechanical machinery.
- Technical degree, trade certificate, or completed apprenticeship in electrical/mechanical disciplines is highly preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Willingness and absolute flexibility to accommodate heavy travel requirements.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills and a solutions-oriented mindset.
