This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the Administrative Professional (Employee Group) The Budget officer provides expert financial support for the Faculty of Education, ensuring effective budget development, monitoring, and compliance with institutional policies.
The Budget
Officer combines analytical and operational responsibilities, including forecasting, variance analysis, transaction oversight, and teaching load reconciliation. They act as the faculty’s primary financial resource, supporting academic leadership with data-driven insights and ensuring efficient financial operations.
The Budget Officer will: Prepare financial forecasts and conduct variance analysis on actual-to-budget comparisons
- Conduct financial analyses, projections and reporting on course enrolment, including low enrolment analysis
- Investigate significant variances and provide actionable recommendations to improve performance
- Perform financial analysis for faculty projects, and program accounts
- Review and approve faculty financial transactions, ensuring adherence to university policies and funding requirements
- Process journal entries, reconcile accounts and monitor deficit/ended accounts Provide guidance to faculty and staff on financial policies, expense categories, and best practices
- Coordinate and prepare the faculty’s annual budget submission, working closely with academic units and administrative staff
- Provide financial input for Faculty planning initiatives and advise on budget impacts of operational decisions
- Support special projects and initiatives, while providing finance and accounting expertise; and Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to operational efficiency. An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline or a combination of education and experience
- Strong knowledge of financial systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel
- Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

- Ability to interpret and apply policies and provide guidance to stakeholders
- Job Grade [K], Salary Scale ($61,286.00 - $99,384.00 Target Hiring Range: $61,286.00 - $65,000.00 This is a 12 Month contract position that includes: Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive extended health, dental, and vision coverage.
Pension Plan: Enrollment eligibility in the Brock University Pension Plan.
Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays. The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
