About GrowMate™

GrowMate™ is an after-school Human Skills PBL program for children ages 6–17. Our current programs focus on learners ages 6–13.

Instead of traditional tutoring, students work in small groups on real-world projects. Through discussion, research, problem-solving, creation and presentation, they develop five HEART™ Human Core Competencies:

H — Human Collaboration E — Expression & Communication A — Action & Problem Solving

R — Resilience & Self-Management

T — Thinking & Creativity

The Role

We are looking for elementary teachers, recent BEd graduates, or BEd teacher candidates who enjoy working with children in a small-group, project-based environment.

As a GrowMate PBL Mentor, you will guide a small group of learners through projects using our GrowLoop™ framework:

Inquire → Design → Create → Revise → Present → Reflect

This is different from traditional tutoring. Your role is to ask good questions, guide discussion, support teamwork, and help children work through challenges rather than simply giving them the answers.

Responsibilities

- Facilitate small groups of learners ages 6–13
- Guide weekly project discussions and activities
- Encourage participation, teamwork and independent thinking
- Give constructive feedback to learners
- Communicate with the GrowMate team about learner progress
- Participate in mentor training
- Depending on experience and interest,

contribute to project and curriculum development

Who We’re Looking For You may be a good fit if you:
- Are a BC-certified teacher, recent BEd graduate, or current BEd teacher candidate
- Have experience working with elementary or middle-school-aged children
- Enjoy discussion-based and project-based learning
- Know how to guide children without simply giving them the answer
- Are patient, encouraging and comfortable facilitating small groups
- Are interested in helping children develop solid human skills in the AI era
- Are comfortable learning and using digital tools

Experience with PBL is an asset but not required. GrowMate provides the project framework, materials and mentor training. Schedule & Location

Part-time, primarily after school.

Typical program times are approximately 3:45–6:00 PM on weekdays, with additional opportunities depending on program needs.

Programs may include online small-group sessions and occasional in-person activities in Richmond.

Compensation

C$30–35/hour, depending on experience and responsibilities.

Why Join GrowMate?

GrowMate is currently building its founding mentor team. Early mentors will have opportunities to contribute to our projects, facilitation practices and mentor system as the program develops.

Please submit your resume along with a short note about your experience working with children and why this type of project-based learning interests you.

Pay: $25.00-$50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10.0 – 20.0 per week

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Richmond, BC
