About Maple and Mast
Maple and Mast provides compassionate, respectful, trauma-informed personal support services that help clients maintain their independence, dignity, safety, and quality of life.
We support individuals with diverse needs and life experiences, including seniors, veterans, first responders, people recovering from injuries or living with brain injuries, and individuals managing disabilities, chronic illnesses, mental-health challenges, or trauma-related conditions.
Position Summary
We are seeking caring, dependable, and professional Personal Support Workers who are committed to delivering high-quality, client-centred care. The successful candidate will understand that trauma can affect a person's health, behaviour, communication, relationships, and sense of safety.
As a Maple and Mast PSW, you will provide practical and emotional support while respecting each client's choices, dignity, privacy, culture, personal history, boundaries, and right to participate in decisions about their care.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living.
· Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, mobility, positioning, and transfers.
· Support clients with meal preparation, hydration, light housekeeping, laundry, and other approved household tasks.
· Provide medication reminders within the PSW's authorized scope of practice and the client's care plan.
· Offer companionship and support social and community participation.
· Follow individualized care plans and established safety procedures.
· Deliver care using trauma-informed principles, including safety, trust, choice, collaboration, empowerment, and respect.
· Recognize and respond appropriately to signs of distress, anxiety, fear, discomfort, or potential trauma triggers.
· Use calm, respectful, and non-judgmental communication.
· Respect client consent, privacy, confidentiality, boundaries, and personal preferences.
· Observe and document changes in a client's physical, emotional, cognitive, or behavioural well-being.
· Report concerns, incidents, safety risks, or changes in condition promptly.
· Communicate professionally with clients,
families, supervisors, and other members of the care team.
· Maintain accurate and timely service records and documentation.
· Follow all infection-prevention, health and safety, privacy, and organizational policies.
· Participate in orientation, team meetings, supervision, and required professional development.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must:
· Be a graduate of a recognized Personal Support Worker program from a recognized educational institution.
· Provide proof of current professional liability insurance appropriate for PSW services.
· Hold current First Aid and CPR certification.
· Be committed to providing compassionate, culturally sensitive, person-centred, and trauma-informed care.
· Be willing to participate in paid initial and ongoing professional development related to trauma, PTSD, brain injury, mental health, and trauma-informed care.
· Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
· Be able to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector and Police Records Check.
· Maintain client confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy requirements.
· Demonstrate dependable attendance, punctuality, sound judgment, and skilled boundaries.
· Be physically able to perform the essential responsibilities of the position safely, with reasonable accommodation where required.
Preferred Qualifications
· Previous experience providing home or community-based care.
· Experience supporting seniors, veterans, first responders, or individuals living with brain injuries, disabilities, chronic illnesses, mental-health challenges, PTSD, or other effects of trauma.
· Training in trauma-informed care, mental-health first aid, safe transfers, dementia care, acquired brain injury, crisis prevention, or de-escalation.
· Experience working collaboratively with families, case managers, rehabilitation professionals, and other healthcare providers.
· Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends.
