Position: Photographer

Location: Legislative Assembly of Ontario

Employment: Full-Time

Salary: 70K - 80K Based on experience and skill

Hours: 40 hours per week, evenings and weekends as required

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced, talented and highly adaptable Photographer to join our Digital Department.

This role is ideal for a creative professional who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, has a strong eye for compelling visual storytelling and can confidently capture high-quality content in constantly changing environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for photographing the Premier, Ministers and MPPs at events, announcements and other engagements across Ontario. You will work closely with the Digital Team to capture, edit, organize and deliver high-quality photography for social media, digital communications, marketing and other creative needs.

This is a hands-on role that requires frequent travel across Ontario, quick turnarounds and the ability to adapt on the fly. The ideal candidate can walk into a busy event, quickly assess the environment, identify the strongest visual opportunities and deliver polished photography under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

Photography & Visual Storytelling

- Photograph the Premier, Ministers and MPPs at events, announcements, meetings, tours and other engagements.
- Capture a strong mix of candid, documentary and posed photography that tells the story of an event and performs effectively across digital and social platforms.
- Consistently produce compelling, high-quality imagery in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor events, construction sites, facilities, community events and formal announcements.
- Quickly assess lighting, positioning, movement and event conditions to determine the best approach on site.
- Set up and operate professional Sony camera equipment, flashes, lighting, lenses and other photography equipment.




- Maintain a consistent visual style and high standard of quality across all photography.
- Anticipate key moments and capture images that can be used immediately for social media and communications purposes.
- Adapt quickly to changing schedules, locations, priorities and last-minute requests.

Photo Editing & Delivery

- Select, edit, colour-correct and retouch photographs using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
- Deliver polished, social-ready photography within tight deadlines, including an expected one-hour turnaround following events when required.
- Identify priority images and ensure content is delivered quickly.
- Prepare and optimize photography for Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, websites and other digital platforms.
- Organize, catalog, back up and maintain photography files and digital archives.
- Ensure photo assets are properly labelled, highly organized and easily accessible to internal teams.
- Manage multiple photography assignments and editing deadlines simultaneously.

Equipment & File Management

- Maintain and organize qualified cameras, lenses, flashes, lighting, tripods, computers and related production equipment.
- Ensure photography equipment is charged, organized and ready for deployment.
- Maintain organized workflows for transferring, backing up and archiving photography.
- Flag equipment issues and ensure equipment is properly maintained.

Qualifications & Experience

- 3–5+ years of professional photography experience in an editorial, political, corporate, commercial, news, event or comparable fast-paced environment.
- Strong qualified portfolio demonstrating a range of event, candid,



documentary and portrait photography.
- Strong working knowledge of Sony professional camera systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
- Strong understanding of professional lighting techniques, including on-camera flash and portable lighting setups.
- Experience working under tight deadlines and delivering edited photography quickly.
- Strong understanding of composition, exposure, colour correction, retouching and professional photography workflows.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong creative eye.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and competing priorities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a creative team.
- Valid G driver's licence.
- Willing and able to travel frequently across Ontario.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and overtime, depending on event requirements.
- Understanding of content optimization and best practices for social platforms including Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Assets / Nice-to-Have

- Degree or diploma in Photography, Media Production, Communications, Marketing or a related discipline.
- Post-secondary education with an emphasis on professional photography.
- Experience photographing political, government, news, corporate or high-profile events.
- Experience working in environments where content must be captured, edited and published in real time.
- Experience with social media marketing or digital communications.
- Interest in politics or previous experience working in a political environment.
