The Physician

Assistant (PA) at CHEO works alongside the physician on inpatient mental health and in a mental health outpatient aftercare clinic to provide care to the patients requiring these services. The PA integrates the skills and knowledge from a medical model of practice.



The PA functions both autonomously and in collaboration with physicians and other health care providers to manage patient care in a comprehensive manner.

Working closely with the Interdisciplinary team, the physician assistant will participate in the management of patients admitted to inpatient mental health during their admission and/or for a time limited period after discharge and will be involved in medication/treatment management and focused risk assessment. Graduate of a recognized Physician Assistant Program (Essential) Previous experience in related field (Essential) Experience or willingness to learn about mental health (Essential) Current appropriate level of life-support training (e.g., Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) (Essential) Bilingualism (English and French) (Preferred) Pre-screening might include testing. This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment.

All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested. Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. CHEO values diversity and is an equal chance employer.
