Pre-Competitive Programs Lead
ROW Swim Club, Region of Waterloo
Part-time, seasonal (September to June)
About 15 hours a week | $25 to $30 an hour (salary option available)
ROW Swim Club is a community swim club in the Region of Waterloo. We started in 1976. Today we have close to 500 members in 14 training groups. Our mission is to create experiences in competitive swimming that positively shape our swimmers, families, coaches and staff long after their time with the club has ended.
About the role
ROW Swim Academy is where many swimmers first join our club. Swimmers 10 and under train once a week. The Academy runs three 10-week sessions a year at Cameron Heights Pool, with about 100 swimmers in each session.
As Pre-Competitive Programs Lead, you fully own and lead Swim Academy. You build the season plan and skill progressions. You run new swimmer assessments and registration with the office. You are the main contact for Academy parents, and you send each swimmer's report card at the end of each session.
You also lead recruiting, training and scheduling for the Academy coaching team, working with the General Manager. The General Manager and HR committee make the hiring decisions.
You will also work as a TOPS Deck Supervisor. TOPS has about 90 swimmers from September to June. In this part of the role, you supervise on deck, support coaches and cover sessions when scheduled. The TOPS Program Coordinator sets the TOPS program.
About two-thirds of your time (10 hours a week) is on deck. The rest is planning and admin.
Schedule and location
Sessions run Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings between 5:15 and 8:00 pm, and Saturday mornings from 7:30 to 10:00 am. You will work at Cameron Heights Pool in Kitchener and the Wilfrid Laurier University pool in Waterloo, plus some work from home.
You report to the General Manager and the TOPS Program Coordinator.
What you bring

- NCCP Fundamentals Coach certification
- Water Safety Instructor certification
- A clear Vulnerable Sector Check, or willingness to get one
- Safe Sport training
- Robust planning skills, and clear, kind communication with children, parents and coaches
- Free on the evenings and Saturday mornings listed above
It helps if you have Water Safety Instructor certification, Standard First Aid with CPR, NCCP Competition Introduction, experience hiring staff, or customer-facing retail or service work. Don't meet every point? Please apply anyway. We care most about how you work with people.
What we offer
We help pay for NCCP courses and coach clinics. You will have a mentor on staff, regular check-ins with the General Manager, and a strong, caring team. You will have a real chance to shape how young swimmers start in the sport, and a path to more hours or a bigger role as the club grows.
Timelines and Selection The start date is as soon as possible. The role stays open until we select the right person.
ROW welcomes people of all backgrounds, cultures, genders and abilities. As part of our women in coaching initiatives, we strongly encourage women with an interest in coaching competitive swimming to apply. Need accommodations during hiring? Tell us. We will work with you.
