Sturgeon Public Schools is seeking a dynamic, compassionate, and student-centered Principal to provide educational leadership at Jessie's House. This unique leadership role is suited to an educational leader who is committed to trauma-informed practice, strong instructional leadership, and building trusting relationships with students, families and staff. The successful candidate will help create a protected, inclusive, and responsive learning environment that recognizes the diverse experiences and needs of students and supports their continued learning, growth, and sense of belonging.
What is Jessie's House?
Jessie's House is an emergency shelter in Morinville, Alberta, providing support to individuals and families experiencing domestic violence. Jessie's House is more than a place to stay, it provides a broad range of services, including outreach, case management, court support, and specialized support for children.
As a trauma-informed facility, Jessie's House strives to meet residents where they are and reduce barriers to accessing services. The organization recognizes that each individual and family arrives with unique experiences, strengths, needs, and circumstances.
Children and youth are an important part of the Jessie's House community. Specialized support for children is provided alongside the broader services available to families, creating an environment where children can continue to learn, grow, and experience stability during a time of significant transition.
The Principal will become part of a collaborative, supportive environment where education works alongside the other services provided by Jessie's House. The ability to build trusting relationships, create a predictable and welcoming learning environment, and respond to students with empathy and flexibility is particularly important in this setting.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide compassionate, student centered instructional leadership grounded in trauma-informed practice and a strong commitment to the academic, social, and emotional success of every student
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, and professional judgment when working with students, families, staff, and sensitive information
- Create a safe, predictable, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment that supports students experiencing significant transition, disruption, and complex life circumstances
- Build trusting relationships with students and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Be passionate about supporting students with varied academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs
- Work collaboratively with Jessie's House staff, Sturgeon Public Schools staff, families, and community partners to provide coordinated and responsive supports for students
- Support continuity of learning through flexible, individualized approaches that respond to varying academic needs, attendance patterns, and lengths of stay
- Champion inclusive education practices, including differentiated instruction, appropriate assessment, and individualized supports for diverse learning needs
- Support high-quality teaching and learning through coaching, supervision, collaboration, and professional growth
- Use evidence, professional judgment, and student needs to guide decision-making and support continuous improvement
- Lead school operations in alignment with Division policies, priorities,
Alberta Education requirements, and the unique needs of the Jessie's House learning environment
- Demonstrate adaptability, sound judgment, and thoughtful resource management in a dynamic and evolving educational setting
What You Bring
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification
- Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) Certificate (required)
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a school-based role
- Master's Degree, graduate coursework, or degree in Educational Leadership
- Strong instructional leadership and curriculum expertise
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practice and the ability to apply it within a school setting
- A high degree of confidentiality, discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment when working with sensitive student and family information
- A genuine passion for supporting students from diverse backgrounds, experiences, identities, and circumstances
- Proven ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners
- Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility and adaptability when responding to changing student needs and complex situations
