MEGlobal Canada ULC is hiring a Process Control Engineer for our Prentiss site, located near Red Deer, Alberta.

The successful candidate will provide technical expertise and stewardship to sustain, optimize, and enhance process control systems, solutions, and projects that support the secure, environmentally responsible, reliable, and efficient operation of our world-scale ethylene oxide, ethylene glycol, and utility facilities.

The successful candidate will be capable of performing in either a Process Control Systems Engineer or Process Control Solutions Engineer capacity, with responsibilities assigned based on business priorities, team requirements, and workload. The position may also lead or support the execution of automation, Operational Technology (OT), and functional safety projects, providing opportunities to contribute across system lifecycle management, process control optimization, and project delivery.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Process Control Solutions Engineer: Responsible for sustaining and enhancing process control and safety operational solutions, including process control and safety strategies and code, process calculations, operator graphics, process alarm and operator interaction strategies, advanced control, and process historian systems, in accordance with operating discipline:

- Provides plant support for critical or complex problem resolution and develops complex process control solutions where required.
- Day-to-day process control solutions health monitoring, troubleshooting and performance optimization.
- Identifies opportunities to improve plant performance, safety, or reliability.
- Develops Process Control Strategy Documents by applying plant knowledge and experience.
- Develops and implements Process Control code for small maintenance and improvement projects.
- Develops and maintains Process Control Solutions design and configuration documentation.
- Reports Process Control Solutions key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Actively participates on North America Process Control Solutions team.
- Identifies, develops, implements, and manages Process Control Solutions operating discipline.
- Participate in process control project FATs, SATs and commissioning activities as required.
- Actively supports operations to reliably achieve longer runs between outages and turnarounds.
- Ensures concerns of operations regarding process control issues are addressed.
- Develops and implements strategies for process alarm and operation interaction management.
- Assists plant operations and delivers training as required.
- Performs controller tuning.
- Participates in plant trials as required.
- Provides expertise and assists in the development of operating discipline policies, work processes, and long-term lifecycle plans.
- Leads or participates on the site automation team.
- Serves as backup Process Control Systems Engineer as required





Process Control Systems Engineer: Responsible for sustaining and enhancing site process control systems infrastructure, including hardware, systems, applications, and databases in accordance with operating discipline:

- Maintains and enhances the health, reliability, and performance of process control systems, hardware, applications, and databases.
- Day-to-day systems health monitoring, troubleshooting and performance optimization.
- Solves complex operational problems and/or develops complex design solutions.
- Reports Process Control Systems KPI metrics.
- Identifies opportunities and develops project functional requirements.
- Leads and implements upgrade and improvement projects.
- Evaluates and implements safety instrumented systems.
- Maintains systems per maintenance schedule, including implementing patches and updates.
- Actively participates on North America Process Control Systems team.
- Provides expertise and assists in the development of operating discipline policies, work processes, and long-term lifecycle plans.
- Develops and maintains the preventive maintenance schedule for process control systems.
- Participates in process control project FATs, SATs, HAT, and commissioning activities as required.
- Develops and maintains Process Control Systems design and configuration documentation.
- Recommends and maintains vendor support contract and spare parts strategy.
- Provides technical coaching and support to maintenance and operations personnel.
- Coaches process control team members and transfers technical knowledge and experience.
- Leads or participates on site automation team.
- Serves as backup Process Control Solutions Engineer as required

Project Engineer: Responsible for leading the execution of Process Control Solutions, Process Control Systems, and OT projects, including project scope development, design, configuration, testing, installation, commissioning, and start-up, in accordance with operating discipline:

- Identifies, develops, and implements process control functional requirements and scopes of work required for projects.
- Ensures that project implementation meets operational, functional, and cyber security requirements.
- Participates in project cost and schedule development and monitoring.
- Participates and lead project reviews and Management of Change process.
- Provides expertise for the safe and efficient transition of project to operations.
- Develops and delivers training to operations on new systems prior to plant commissioning.
- Identifies, develops, implements, and manages operating discipline for process control projects.
- May lead or support capital projects across multiple MEGlobal sites

General

- Leads and/or participates on assigned multi-site process control or functional safety teams to ensure standardization, harmonization, and globalization across facilities.




- Monitor vendor advisories and assess for applicability.
- Attains and maintains certification in applicable process control roles.
- Project Manager for small maintenance and improvement projects.
- Supports capital improvement projects from conception to commissioning.
- Share key learning and best practices.
- Effectively utilizes Management of Change (MOC) policy. Initiates MOCs as required. Acts as MOC Reviewer.
- Participates in OT standards compliance and safety audits.
- Conducts ODMS and other process control Self-Assessments.
- Participates in and/or leads root cause analysis of plant incident investigations.
- Provides support during unplanned events and plant trips.
- Acts as Owner representative for work being performed by vendors.
- Completes assigned AITS Tool action items in timely manner.
- Completes assigned training and certifications in a timely manner.
- Actively supports and participates in EH&S; programs.
- Coaches process control team members and transfers technical knowledge and experience.
- Communicates process control initiatives to plant personnel.
- Provides after-hours and on-call support for critical process control solutions and system issues as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor of Engineering degree required, Chemical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
- Demonstrated expertise in configuring and troubleshooting Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) systems in an operating plant environment. Experience with Honeywell Experion, Honeywell Safety Manager and Triconex systems is preferred.
- Experience leading small to large scale process control projects, including:
- Leading design and implementation projects;
- Design, testing, installation, commissioning, and project start-up;
- Development of process control strategies, applications, operating discipline
- Excellent influencing and communication skills.
- Ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams and interact with all levels of the organization.
- Commitment to EH&S.;
- Self-motivation and high initiative.
