Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and organized Program Coordinator to lead our literacy and essential skill programs and services. This multifaceted role includes developing and managing programs, conducting learner intake appointments/assessments, recruiting and training volunteers, liaising with partners, and assisting with oversight of day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator will:
- Respond to information requests and inquiries with accurate information
- Represent the organization through positive relationships with learners, volunteers, clients, staff, external contacts and the general public
- Conduct intake appointments and assess learner needs
- Create personalized learning plans and match learners with volunteer tutors or small group programs
- Assist with the research, designing, development, editing, and evaluating of content for curricula and programs
- Train, direct and participate in the evaluation of staff
- Facilitate small group and 1:1 program instruction to learners as required
- Evaluate program success
- Participate in fund raising activities
- Develop comprehensive reports outlining recommendations, learner progress, statistics, results, trends, and success stories
- Use internal/external databases and file systems to input and maintain data
- Promote the organization and its programs through the use of social media, information boards, flyers, brochures,
committee meetings and networking events
- Prepare and deliver presentations, newsletters, workshops and other correspondence
- Perform other duties to uphold organizational operation
Qualifications:
Education
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in social sciences, education or related field
- Knowledge of adult literacy/education is an asset
- Volunteer Management Certificate is an asset
Knowledge & Experience
- 1-3 years’ experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds within a learner centered environment – EO experience an asset
- Familiar with information and case management systems and how they are utilized
- Excellent reading, writing and digital skills (proficiency with Microsoft Office applications)
- Outstanding multi-tasking skills, including excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and demands
- Exceptional time management, problem solving and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills; dedicated to building and managing relationships with co-workers, students, clients and external contacts
- Team oriented; able to work as a team to generate ideas, solutions and improvements
- Dedicated to continuous learning
- Self-directed and highly capable of working independently without supervision
- Able to collect, analyze and organize data to produce reports and detect trends
- Committed to continuous quality improvement
- Good analytical and critical thinking skills; able to make sound decisions and determine appropriate resolutions
Working Conditions:
- Work hours may include evenings and weekends as needed
- Approximately 35 hours per week (funding dependent)
- Working in an office environment
- Required to travel locally (and elsewhere as required)
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Standing
- Sitting
- Lifting; must be able to lift and transport supplies and equipment (up to 50lbs)
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and have regular access to a vehicle
- Must provide references and a clear Police Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Search (at own expense)
- Successful candidates will be required to complete an assessment of essential skills - reading, writing, computer use
