Position Summary
Department / Research Program: Translational Research in Respiratory Diseases Program
We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual to join the Nguyen Lab as a Research Assistant. Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of collaborators and research staff across partnering institutions. This position will support research on the genomic epidemiology of antibiotic resistant bacteria.
General Duties
- Coordinate and execute end-to-end research workflows, from clinical sample collection and transport to laboratory processing, genomic and metagenomic sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, and reporting.
- Perform molecular biology and microbiology procedures, including sample preparation, DNA extraction, library preparation, microbial culture, and sequencing workflows.
- Analyze genomic and metagenomic data, including quality control, genome assembly, taxonomic classification, genome annotation, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) gene detection, and comparative genomic analysis using command-line tools, R, Python,
and other bioinformatics software.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain reproducible computational workflows and analysis pipelines, including software environments, databases, scripts, and quality-control procedures.
- Integrate laboratory, sequencing, and computational results to generate comprehensive datasets and interpret findings in a biological and research context.
- Perform statistical analyses and data visualization and prepare tables, figures, reports, and other research outputs for internal and external use.
- Maintain accurate sample, experimental, sequencing, and computational records and ensure appropriate data organization, quality control, and documentation.
- Troubleshoot technical issues proactively across laboratory and computational workflows.
- Communicate results regularly to research collaborators, laboratory personnel, and other stakeholders.

Education / Experience
Education: Master's Degree
Field of Study: Molecular biology, microbiology, bioinformatics, or other related field
Other Education Considered An Asset For This Position
Work Experience: Experience in microbiology, DNA extraction and sequencing, and genomic data analysis
Required Skills
- Knowledge of French is required.
- An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English.
The position also requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.
Additional information Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: 50,960.00$ - 94,658.20$. Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: : Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm
