Description The Research Centre in the Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Research Associate.

Part-time position is for approximately 5 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Associate carries out assigned research activities, contributes to research design and implementation, conducts qualitative and quantitative analysis as appropriate, prepares scholarly and project outputs, and supports research ethics, project coordination, and community engagement.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

- Carry out designated research components across multiple projects under the overall direction of the PI, using established research methods and approved work plans.
- Prepare research ethics submissions, amendments, and supporting documentation under PI guidance; track submission status and identify requirements for ongoing compliance.
- Develop and refine literature-search strategies, conduct literature reviews and environmental scans, and synthesize evidence to inform research activities and scholarly outputs.
- Conduct participant recruitment, consent processes, interviews, focus groups, observations, and survey administration in accordance with approved protocols.
- Conduct qualitative analysis and, where applicable, quantitative or mixed-methods analysis; interpret findings and prepare analytical summaries and recommendations for the PI.
- Contribute substantively to manuscripts, research reports, abstracts, conference presentations, grant applications, and other knowledge-mobilization materials.
- Coordinate designated project activities and timelines, maintain documentation, and communicate progress, risks, and proposed solutions to the PI.
- Build and maintain research relationships with community members, organizations, and collaborators within the scope of assigned projects.
- Maintain secure research-data transmission, storage, and documentation processes in accordance with University policies, approved ethics protocols, and applicable privacy legislation; recommend process improvements to the PI as appropriate.

Qualifications / Requirements

- Completed Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Arts (MA), or other relevant master's degree in the social sciences or a related discipline; or a completed PhD in a relevant discipline is required.
- Minimum three years of progressively responsible research experience, including substantial qualitative research and data-analysis experience.




- Demonstrated experience or knowledge relevant to research involving Black communities, anti-Black racism, racialization, social justice, trauma, or related areas.
- Strong experience in qualitative research, including recruitment, interviews, focus groups, coding, analysis, and interpretation.
- Experience preparing research ethics applications and amendments and applying approved research protocols.
- Experience designing and administering surveys using Qualtrics or comparable software; experience with quantitative or mixed-methods research is an asset.

- Advanced literature-search and review skills, including use of scholarly databases and search engines.
- Strong scholarly writing and demonstrated ability to contribute to manuscripts, reports, presentations, and grant-related materials.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, solve research-related problems, and manage competing priorities with limited guidance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and research software such as NVivo, SPSS, or comparable tools; ability to learn new software.
- Robust interpersonal and communication skills, including experience engaging community members, research partners, and diverse groups.
- Demonstrated discretion, confidentiality, attention to detail, and knowledge of research ethics and secure data-management requirements.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in in-person and virtual research environments.
