Location: Cambridge, Ontario

Industry: Industrial Pump Repair, Rotating Equipment, Manufacturing

Compensation estimated range: $35.00 to $45.00 per hour. Starting wage will be based on the successful candidate's experience, technical capabilities, and overall fit for the role.

ABOUT THE POSITION

APR is seeking an experienced Rotating Equipment Technologist to support the inspection, evaluation, documentation, reverse engineering, and repair development of pumps and rotating equipment.

This is a highly hands-on technical role that works closely with pump mechanics, machinists, estimators, and the Shop Foreman throughout the repair process. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting equipment, evaluating component condition, preparing detailed technical documentation, developing repair recommendations, and supporting the preparation of accurate repair quotations.

The Rotating Equipment Technologist serves as the technical link between equipment teardown, quoting, machining, and repair execution. The quality and accuracy of the inspection reports, dimensional measurements, sketches, and repair recommendations developed by this position directly impact repair scope development, customer quotations, machining requirements, parts replacement requirements, customer recommendations, and final repair execution.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspection, Evaluation, Documentation & Quoting Support

- Inspect pumps, rotating equipment, and components during disassembly and evaluation.
- Evaluate component condition, identify wear patterns, failures, and determine repairability.
- Measure and document critical dimensions, fits, tolerances, and clearances using precision measuring equipment.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports that clearly identify repair requirements, machining requirements, replacement parts, technical risks, and customer recommendations.
- Develop repair scopes for damaged, worn, or obsolete components.
- Work closely with estimators to support accurate quotations and customer proposals.
- Ensure inspection findings, repair recommendations, and repair requirements are accurately reflected within quotations.
- Prepare sketches, dimensional drawings, and technical documentation to support quoting, manufacturing, and repair activities.
- Maintain accurate and consistent technical records throughout the repair process.

Reverse Engineering & Repair Development

- Reverse engineer worn or obsolete components where OEM drawings or specifications are unavailable.
- Determine machining allowances, repair tolerances, material requirements, and repair methods.
- Establish critical dimensions, fits, and tolerances required for successful repairs.
- Develop manufacturing information, technical documentation, and repair procedures for repaired or replacement components.




- Identify repair alternatives and provide practical recommendations based on equipment condition and application requirements.

Technical Support & Repair Execution

- Work closely with pump mechanics, machinists, estimators, and the Shop Foreman throughout the repair process.
- Provide technical support during inspection, machining, assembly, and testing activities.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of dimensional, fit-up, and mechanical issues.
- Verify repaired components meet dimensional and functional requirements.
- Verify completed repairs meet established repair scopes, quality standards, and technical requirements.
- Participate in final inspection and repair verification prior to shipment.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

- Minimum 5 years of experience in machining, rotating equipment repair, pump repair, or mechanical rebuilding.
- Strong background in conventional machining practices, tolerancing, and precision measurement.
- Experience using micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, depth gauges, and related measuring instruments.
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and repair documentation.
- Experience evaluating mechanical wear, failures, and component repair requirements.
- Experience with reverse engineering, repair development, and technical documentation.
- Experience preparing inspection reports, dimensional sketches, and technical documentation.
- Experience developing repair scopes, repair recommendations, and machining requirements.
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver's license.

ADDITIONAL ASSETS

- Machinist, Tool & Die Maker, Millwright, Mechanical Engineering Technologist, Manufacturing Engineering Technologist, or related technical education.
- Experience with centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, mixers, blowers, gearboxes, and other rotating equipment.
- Experience with reverse engineering, repair development, and technical documentation.
- Experience supporting estimating and quotation development.
- Familiarity with manual sketching of parts, technical drawing and CAD software
- Experience within the municipal water, wastewater, mining, pulp and paper, or industrial markets.

Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
