SALES MANAGER – FLOORING

Position: Sales Manager – Flooring

Department: Sales & Business Development

Employment Type: Full time

Reports To: General Manager / Ownership

POSITION SUMMARY The Sales Manager – Flooring is responsible for driving profitable sales growth across commercial, builder, contractor, property management, and retail flooring markets.

A primary focus of this position is business development—actively identifying, prospecting, and securing new commercial projects, builders, general contractors, renovators, developers, property managers, and other B2B flooring opportunities.

The Sales Manager will also manage and strengthen relationships with the company's key accounts and top customers to increase repeat business, customer retention, referrals, and overall account value.

This is a hands-on sales position. The Sales Manager will work directly with two Interior Designers/Sales Consultants, assist with retail and project sales, conduct site measurements when required, prepare or review estimates and quotations, and help move opportunities from initial inquiry through quotation, closing, installation, and project completion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & NEW ACCOUNT ACQUISITION

- Actively identify and pursue new flooring opportunities within the commercial, builder, contractor, developer, renovation, and property management sectors.
- Develop relationships with home builders, general contractors, commercial contractors, developers, designers, architects, property managers, restoration companies, and other industry professionals.
- Conduct regular outbound prospecting through phone calls, emails, site visits, networking, referrals, and face-to-face meetings.
- Monitor local construction activity and identify upcoming residential and commercial projects that may require flooring products and installation services.
- Obtain invitations to bid and ensure the company is included on appropriate contractor and builder bid lists.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of qualified opportunities.
- Prepare and present flooring proposals, quotations, product recommendations, and project solutions.
- Negotiate opportunities within approved pricing and gross-margin guidelines.
- Convert new accounts into long-term, repeat customers.

2. KEY ACCOUNT & CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned top customers and strategic accounts.
- Develop a strong understanding of each customer's projects, purchasing requirements, specifications, budgets, schedules, and service expectations.
- Maintain regular contact with key accounts rather than relying solely on incoming orders.
- Conduct periodic account reviews and identify opportunities to increase the company's share of each customer's flooring business.
- Coordinate internally to ensure quotations, product selections, ordering, installation, invoicing, deficiencies, and warranty matters are handled professionally.
- Address customer concerns promptly and protect long-term business relationships.
- Develop strategies for customer retention, referrals, repeat business, and account growth.

3. SALES TEAM LEADERSHIP
- Work directly with and provide day-to-day sales leadership to two Interior Designers/Sales Consultants.

- Assist the designers with estimating, pricing, quotations, project planning, and closing sales.
- Review major quotations before submission to ensure accuracy, appropriate scope, and acceptable margins.
- Help prioritize sales opportunities and follow up on outstanding quotations.
- Establish expectations for customer follow-up, quote turnaround, documentation, and project handoff.
- Coach the sales team on product knowledge, consultative selling, customer service, and account development.
- Conduct regular sales meetings and pipeline reviews.
- Support the team in resolving complex customer or project issues.

4. RETAIL SALES & SITE MEASUREMENTS
- Support the retail sales team during busy periods and when additional sales expertise is required.
- Attend customer homes and project sites to complete flooring measurements and site assessments.
- Accurately measure rooms, stairs, hallways, transitions, and other flooring areas.
- Identify site conditions that may affect installation, including subfloor concerns, floor preparation, transitions, stairs, removal requirements, and accessibility.
- Translate measurements into accurate quantities and take-offs for estimating purposes.
- Ensure measurements, project notes, drawings, photographs, and relevant site information are properly documented.
- Work with Interior Designers to convert measurements and customer selections into accurate estimates and proposals.
- Clearly identify exclusions, allowances, floor-preparation requirements, and other project conditions before contracts are finalized.

5. ESTIMATING, QUOTATIONS & PROJECT COORDINATION
- Prepare or review estimates for flooring materials, accessories, floor preparation, removal, delivery, and installation.
- Ensure quotations accurately reflect customer requirements and project scope.
- Maintain appropriate gross margins while remaining competitive.
- Follow up consistently on outstanding quotations and document the reason for won or lost opportunities.
- Coordinate with purchasing, administration, installers, project coordinators, and management after a project is awarded.
- Ensure complete project information is transferred from sales to operations before installation.
- Monitor major projects through completion and maintain communication with the customer.

6. SALES PERFORMANCE & ACCOUNTABILITY The Sales Manager will be accountable for measurable results, including:
- New commercial, builder, and contractor accounts acquired.
- New qualified opportunities added to the sales pipeline.
- Revenue generated from new B2B accounts.
- Growth of existing key accounts.
- Overall sales revenue.
- Gross profit dollars and gross-margin percentage.
- Quote-to-sale conversion rate.
- Quote turnaround and follow-up.
- Customer retention and repeat business.
- Customer satisfaction and referrals.
- Reduction in preventable sales-related errors, claims, and callbacks.
- Accuracy of measurements,

estimates, and project documentation.

The Sales Manager will provide management with regular updates on the sales pipeline, major quotations, new business opportunities, key account activity, sales performance, and risks affecting upcoming projects.
