Secondary Mathematics Teacher
Secondary I–V | Advanced Mathematics (SN4 and SN5) | 2027–2028 School Year
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and engaging Secondary Mathematics Teacher to teach students from Secondary I to Secondary V, including the advanced Secondary IV and V Science Option (SN4 and SN5) mathematics courses, at our English-language private school in Québec.
The successful candidate will foster mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence in mathematics. Working within the Québec Education Program (QEP) and the Progression of Learning (POL), the teacher will develop meaningful learning experiences that strengthen students' conceptual understanding and ability to apply mathematics to real-world situations.
We are looking for an educator who values academic excellence, differentiated instruction, and individualized student support, particularly in advanced mathematics pathways that prepare students for CEGEP and university studies.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum and Instruction
- Plan and deliver mathematics lessons for Secondary I–V in accordance with the Québec Education Program (QEP) and Progression of Learning (POL).
- Teach the Cultural, Social and Technical (CST) mathematics sequence and the advanced Science Option (SN) mathematics sequence in Secondary IV and V, according to the school's course offerings.
- Develop students' mathematical competencies, including solving situational problems, applying mathematical reasoning, and communicating using mathematical language.
- Teach algebra, geometry, functions, statistics, probability, and trigonometry according to the curriculum requirements of each grade level and mathematics sequence.
- Prepare students for the academic demands of advanced mathematics, particularly SN4 and SN5, and support their transition to postsecondary education.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate varying mathematical abilities, learning styles, and individual student needs.
- Incorporate real-world mathematical applications, educational technology, graphical representations, and problem-solving activities into classroom instruction.
- Use interactive teaching methods, digital learning tools, and project-based learning to promote conceptual understanding and student engagement.
Student Assessment and Support
- Design formative and summative assessments aligned with the Québec Ministry of Education's mathematics evaluation frameworks.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback to strengthen mathematical understanding and academic performance.
- Prepare students for applicable Ministry examinations, particularly Secondary IV mathematics examinations, as well as school-based evaluations.
- Identify learning gaps and implement appropriate instructional strategies to support student achievement.
- Collaborate with resource teachers, school administrators, and families to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and appropriate accommodations.
- Provide additional academic support to students who require reinforcement in mathematics or wish to pursue advanced mathematical studies.
Classroom Management and Collaboration
- Establish a structured, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that encourages participation, perseverance, and confidence in mathematics.
- Foster a learning workplace in which students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring different problem-solving strategies, and learning from their mistakes.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, lesson plans, assessments, and student achievement.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and areas requiring improvement.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning, particularly in science and technology.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development activities, and school initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education or a university degree in Mathematics accompanied by appropriate teacher training.
- A valid Québec teaching authorization, such as a brevet d'enseignement, probationary teaching permit,
or provisional teaching authorization, appropriate to the position.
- Strong knowledge of secondary mathematics, including the advanced Secondary IV and V Science Option (SN4 and SN5) curricula.
- Ability to teach mathematics in English within an English-language educational environment.
- Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to plan instruction and assess student learning in accordance with Québec's secondary education requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching secondary mathematics in Québec, particularly the SN4 and SN5 mathematics sequences.
- Familiarity with the Québec Education Program, Progression of Learning, and Ministry evaluation frameworks.
- Experience preparing students for Québec Ministry mathematics examinations.
- Experience supporting students with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, or other diverse learning needs.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction, inclusive education, and individualized education plans.
- Proficiency with mathematical technology, including graphing calculators, dynamic geometry software, and digital learning platforms.
- Experience in mathematics tutoring, enrichment programs, or preparing students for postsecondary mathematics pathways.

Pay: $40,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
