Upkeep Media
Canada
Senior client-facing role | Fully remote | Canada only
Most account managers spend their week reporting on work someone else did. The best ones become the person a client calls before they call anyone else.
At Upkeep Media, we help residential property management companies across North America grow the thing they care about most: doors under management. We went deep on one industry instead of shallow on thirty, and it shows in our results, our retention, and our name in the market.
We are hiring a Senior Account Manager to carry the accounts where the stakes are highest: the biggest books of doors, the multi-location portfolios, the relationships that need a steady senior voice. Our clients are owner-operators who built their companies from a handful of doors. When their business grows, you were part of it, and they will tell you so.
YOUR MISSION
Keep our most important clients confident and growing, and raise the bar for how every account at Upkeep Media is run.
WHAT THIS ROLE IS, AND IS NOT
This is NOT an entry into account management. We have an Account Manager posting open right now for that, and if you are earlier in your client career it is the better door.
This is NOT a people-manager seat that spends all day in internal meetings.
This is NOT a sales quota hiding behind a friendly title.
This IS a senior client role. You carry a full book anchored by our most valuable and most complex accounts, you lead the conversations that matter to those clients, you take the escalations that need experience, and you help shape the playbook the whole account team runs.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- A senior book. Roughly 35 to 45 accounts, weighted toward our largest and most complex clients. You are their main point of contact, you lead their monthly reporting calls, and you run deeper quarterly conversations about where their business is going and how our work gets them there.
- The client's voice inside Upkeep. You are not building SEO plans from scratch. You know each client's market, goals, and pressure points well enough to brief our SEO, content, and web teams properly, push back when the plan does not fit the client, and explain the work in language an owner actually cares about.
- Relationships that last years. Our best client relationships are measured in years, not campaigns. You are the person who remembers they were hiring a new leasing agent, who catches the win before they do, and who they text when something good happens.
- Escalations and saves. When an account goes quiet or slips,
you step in early, steady the relationship, and either save it or make sure we learn exactly why not. This is a slice of the job, not the whole job, but it is the slice that separates senior from everyone else.
- Growth. You spot the accounts ready for more: an added location, a new service, a referral. Expansion here comes from earned trust, and you know how to have that conversation without turning into a salesperson.
- The playbook. Your call structures, your reporting habits, and your systems become the team's. You mentor account managers without a title over them, and you bring leadership process gaps with a proposed fix, not just a complaint.
- Retention. A minimum 96 percent retention rate across your own book, and a hand in keeping the whole team's number there.
THE GOOD PART
We are direct about the hard parts of this job, so here is the honest other side.
You get to watch companies grow. A client comes to us at 180 doors and passes 400, and you were on every call in between. That is rare in marketing, where most people never see what their work actually did.
You get real relationships. Property management owners are practical, funny, and refreshingly blunt. You are not managing a faceless brand team. You are working with people who built something and care about it, and after a couple of years many of them feel like colleagues.
You get to be believed. Bring a recommendation with a reason behind it and clients act on it, because you earned the standing. Very few account roles give you that.
And you get a team that does the work well, so your calls are about progress far more often than apologies.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Within your first year you will have:
- Taken over some of our most demanding accounts and made them calmer within a quarter
- Saved at-risk clients other agencies would have lost, more than once
- Run quarterly conversations clients describe as the most practical hour they spend on marketing
- Grown accounts through earned expansions and referrals, not pressure
- Built relationships strong enough that clients ask for you by name
- Made the account managers around you measurably better
YOUR EXPERIENCE
This is a senior role, and the bar reflects it. You should have:
- At least 4 years in a client-facing account manager, account executive, or client success role, with agency or retainer-based experience strongly preferred
- A track record you can point to: accounts held for years, an unhappy client turned around, a renewal or expansion you personally earned
- Comfort leading conversations with owners and executives, not just status calls
- Working fluency in SEO, content, or digital marketing: enough to defend a plan, challenge a report, and know when something is off
- Real systems for running a large book: many accounts, many deadlines, nothing dropped
- Modern analysis and automation tools already part of how you work
Property management experience is a bonus, not a requirement. We ramp you on our industry and our clients; you bring the craft.
THE REALITY CHECK
This role is not for someone who:
- Wants the senior title but not the hardest calls
- Goes quiet when a client is unhappy or a deadline slips
- Treats mentoring as beneath them or process as someone else's job
- Would rather sound impressive than be clear
WHAT YOU WILL GET
- The work senior people actually want. Real accounts, real ownership, and the trust to run them your way.
- A seat that shapes the team. You work directly with our Head of Account Management and leadership, and the playbook you build outlives any single account.
- Compensation. C$60,000 to C$70,000 per year, with paid time off.
- Flexible work. Fully remote, full time, Monday to Friday during standard business hours.
