Senior Accountant (CPA) – Public Accounting Firm (Midtown Toronto)

Location: Yonge & Eglinton | Full-Time

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with a CPA designation and 10+ years of public accounting experience to join our team.

The successful candidate will independently manage a diverse portfolio of client engagements, including personal and corporate tax returns, compilation engagements, financial statements, trust and estate returns, and tax planning. Working closely with the partners, you will provide practical tax and accounting advice, maintain strong client relationships, and ensure files are completed accurately and within established deadlines.

This role is well suited to a confident, detail-oriented professional with strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to manage complex files independently while supporting the broader team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Manage a portfolio of client engagements, overseeing files from initial document collection through preparation, completion, and delivery.
- Prepare (T1) and corporate (T2) income tax returns, including complex tax matters.
- Prepare trust and estate (T3) tax returns, including related tax filings and compliance requirements.
- Prepare compilation engagement files, financial statements, working papers, and supporting schedules for owner-managed businesses.
- Prepare adjusting journal entries, year-end adjustments, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare HST filings,



T4 and T5 information returns, and other related tax filings.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and provide practical recommendations to clients and partners.
- Respond to CRA reviews, requests for information, notices, and assessments, and assist with preparing responses and supporting documentation.
- Communicate directly with clients to request documentation, address inquiries, explain tax matters, and provide updates on engagements.
- Provide technical guidance and support to accounting staff, as required.
- Work closely with partners and team members to manage workflow, prioritize deadlines, and ensure engagements are completed efficiently.
- Assist with general administrative and practice-related duties, including client correspondence, file maintenance, and other tasks required to support the firm's daily operations.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

- CPA designation required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in public accounting, with demonstrated experience independently managing client engagements.
- Strong technical knowledge of Canadian personal (T1) and corporate (T2) taxation, including complex tax matters.
- Experience preparing trust and estate (T3) returns and handling related tax compliance matters.
- Extensive experience with compilation engagements, financial statements, year-end working papers, and adjusting entries.
- Strong understanding of Canadian tax compliance, including HST, T4, and T5 filings.
- Experience handling CRA reviews, information requests, and client tax inquiries.




- Experience with tax planning for individuals and owner-managed businesses.
- Proficiency in CaseWare, Profile and/or TaxPrep, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound professional judgment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain trusted client relationships.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple files and competing deadlines independently.
- A collaborative, proactive approach and a commitment to delivering high-quality client service.
- Flexibility to work paid overtime during the busy tax season in March and April.
