Senior Corporate Accountant
Contract-to-Hire Opportunity
Location: GTA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 4 days onsite
We are looking for an experienced Senior Corporate Accountant to join a fast-paced finance team. This is a hands-on corporate accounting role requiring solid ownership of month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, and account analysis .
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, managing tight reporting deadlines, and investigating accounting issues without requiring significant guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
- Prepare and post journal entries , including accruals, prepaids, reclasses, depreciation, and other adjusting entries
- Perform general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
- Review and reconcile revenue and other key P&L; accounts
- Investigate account discrepancies, unusual balances, and financial variances
- Prepare supporting schedules, working papers, and monthly financial reporting packages
- Support preparation and review of financial statements
- Perform variance analysis and provide commentary on key account movements
- Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in the correct accounting period
- Support audit requests and provide documentation to internal and external auditors
- Work closely with Finance leadership and cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues
- Support intercompany accounting and reconciliations, where applicable
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency
- Assist with ad-hoc accounting and finance projects
Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive corporate accounting experience
- Robust hands-on experience with month-end close
- Experience independently preparing journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and reconciliations
- Solid understanding of debits and credits and core accounting principles
- Experience with general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
- Strong financial reporting and analytical skills
- Experience preparing or supporting financial statements
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, lookups, and large-data analysis
- Experience in a high-volume or multi-entity corporate environment
- Knowledge of IFRS, ASPE, or GAAP
- CPA, CA, CMA, ACCA, or another recognized accounting designation preferred; international designations may be considered
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
Nice to Have
- Experience in financial services, consumer lending, banking, insurance, fintech, leasing, or credit
- Experience with revenue accounting
- Exposure to automation, process improvement, Power BI, Power Query, or ERP enhancements
- Experience with SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, or similar ERP systems
Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be a true corporate accountant , not purely FP&A.; They should be able to independently close the books, prepare and explain journal entries, reconcile key accounts, investigate variances, and confidently communicate accounting issues to senior management. The role is contract-to-hire , so the organization is looking for someone interested in a long-term opportunity
