Senior Legal Assistant, Real Estate and Construction
Edmonton, AB | Full-time, on site | $80,000 to $95,000
About the opportunity
Our client is a privately held Edmonton real estate group with more than 50 years of history, operating across single family homebuilding, multifamily and condominium construction, purpose-built rental communities, land development and seniors living. Their legal team is small, long-tenured, and sits at the centre of how the business moves property between entities, closes recent home sales, and supports a large rental portfolio. This role is a planned successor to the Legal Manager, who has led the function for over 20 years. You'll join as the senior member of a three-person team, take ownership of conveyancing and property legal administration for the multifamily and rental division, and absorb the institutional knowledge needed to run the function outright.
Timing is deliberate: the current project pipeline gives you a full year to learn the structure before new starts in Alberta and the BC Interior drive volume back up.
What you'll do
- Own the conveyancing process for new home and condominium sales: closing documents, statements of adjustments, Land Titles registrations, tax searches, possession scheduling
- Prepare condominium disclosure packages and liaise with condo boards and property management companies
- Manage move-in, move-out and property transfer files across a multi-entity corporate structure, working closely with the accounting team on how properties are assigned and recorded
- Draft and process property agreements and related documentation for the rental and multifamily divisions
- Administer Yardi and Yuhu, including utilities reconciliation against contracts and monthly AR review with site staff
- Support accounts payable by confirming invoice amounts with Property Managers
- Produce monthly property reports from site and Yardi data
- Act as the day-to-day legal point of contact for internal teams, residents, tenants and external counsel
What you bring
- 5+ years of Alberta residential real estate experience, with new build or condominium work strongly preferred
- Experience on the builder, developer or property management side (in-house or at a firm acting for builders)
- Working knowledge of transfers, mortgages, statements of adjustments, Alberta Land Titles and condominium disclosure requirements
- Comfort with high file volume and a multi-entity structure
- Advanced Excel and strong Word skills; Yardi or Yuhu experience an asset
- BC conveyancing exposure an asset
- Post-secondary education in legal assistant, paralegal or a related field
- Valid Class 5 licence, reliable vehicle, clean abstract and a satisfactory criminal record check (occasional use of company vehicles)
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
Why this role
- Defined path to Legal Manager with full ownership of the function
- Base salary at the top of the Edmonton market for this profile, with flexibility above range for exceptional candidates
- Health, dental, life and disability benefits, flexible spending account, RRSP matching, paid office closure between Christmas and New Year
- Stable, low-turnover employer where tenure is the norm, not the exception
- Standard hours with flexibility in practice; most of the team runs 8 to 4:30 or 8:30 to 5
- Active social club and a modern head office
Timeline A start date by mid-November is preferred to align with year-end benefits eligibility, and notice periods will be respected. To apply, send your resume in confidence. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
