Senior Manager, Commercial (Major Projects)

The Senior Manager, Commercial provides strategic leadership for commercial and procurement activities within Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s Major Projects Department. The role leads commercial strategies, contract management, procurement, risk management and governance across Hydro’s major capital projects, while providing expert advice to project teams and senior leadership.
The Senior
Manager also leads a team of commercial professionals and works collaboratively across the organization to support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and direction for commercial activities within Major Projects;
Develop commercial strategies for major capital projects;
Establish and maintain commercial processes, standards and governance frameworks;
Lead or support procurement, contracting and negotiation strategies;
Provide advice on contractual risk, risk allocation, contractor performance and commercial matters;
Oversee contract administration, change management, claims and dispute resolution;
Support bid evaluations,
contract awards and executive approvals;
Provide commercial input throughout project development, execution and closeout;
Collaborate with Engineering, Project Controls, Finance, Legal, Supply Chain and other stakeholders to resolve complex commercial matters;
Lead, mentor and develop commercial professionals;
Promote commercial discipline, accountability and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For:
Strategic thinking and strong commercial judgement;
Solid negotiation, communication and influencing skills;
A collaborative, solution-focused approach;
A people-focused leader with strong management skills and demonstrated experience leading teams and managing complex priorities;
Strong overall business acumen, with the ability to assess risk and make sound commercial recommendations.
What You’ll Need:
Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Engineering, Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, Law or a related discipline.
Typically, 15–20 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial management, contract management, procurement, major projects or a related discipline.
Experience supporting major engineering, construction, infrastructure, utility or energy projects.
Demonstrated experience negotiating and administering complex contracts.
Experience in a regulated utility, public-sector or large infrastructure environment would be considered an asset.
A master's degree, MBA or professional designation such as SCMP, PMP, CPA, P.Eng., CCCA, CCM or equivalent would be considered an asset.
