About the Job

Pump House is looking for experienced, outgoing servers who know how to take care of people.

We’re a neighbourhood restaurant built around great food, cold drinks, good music, and the kind of service that makes people want to come back. We take what we do seriously — but we don't take ourselves too seriously.

As a Server, you’re responsible for creating a great experience from the moment a guest sits down until the moment they leave. That means knowing the menu, making recommendations, getting orders right, keeping drinks full, reading your tables, helping your teammates, and bringing some personality to the job.

At the end of the day, we're selling food and drinks. But how we make people feel while they're here is what keeps them coming back.

What You'll Be Doing

- Greet guests and make them feel genuinely welcome.
- Take accurate food and beverage orders and communicate them effectively to the kitchen and bar.
- Know the menu — food, cocktails, wine, beer, features, promotions and upcoming events.
- Make recommendations and help guests find something they'll actually enjoy.
- Serve food and beverages promptly, professionally and with personality.
- Read your tables and adjust your service accordingly — some guests want conversation, some want space, and great servers know the difference.
- Check in with guests throughout their experience without making them feel rushed.
- Handle guest concerns professionally and involve a manager when needed.
- Process bills and payments accurately.
- Answer phones, assist with reservations and facilitate takeout orders when required.
- Help greet and seat guests when the team needs a hand.
- Clear, clean and reset tables throughout your shift.
- Complete opening, closing and side duties.
- Keep service areas stocked, clean and organized.
- Follow all food safety, Smart Serve, health and safety, and Pump Group policies.




- Help your teammates. If you see food in the window, run it. If you see a table that needs clearing, clear it. If someone's getting crushed, jump in.
- Attend meetings and training when required.
- Handle other duties as needed — because restaurants don't always follow the script.

What We're Looking For

- Ideally 2+ years of serving experience in a busy restaurant or bar environment.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Smart Serve certification.
- A genuine interest in food, cocktails, beer and hospitality.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to stay calm when things get busy.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual and accountable.
- Skilled appearance and attitude.
- Comfortable using POS and reservation systems.
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- A robust work ethic without taking yourself too seriously.
- Most importantly, someone who is nice to work with.

We can teach systems, menus and procedures. Attitude, effort and how you treat people matter a lot more.

Physical Requirements

Restaurant life keeps you moving. This role requires:

- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Moving quickly and safely through a busy restaurant.
- Carrying trays, plates, glassware and other restaurant equipment.
- Lifting and moving up to approximately 40 lbs when required.
- Working beyond your scheduled finish time occasionally when business requires it.
