Location: Cambridge, Ontario

Industry: Industrial Pump Repair, Rotating Equipment, Manufacturing

Compensation estimated range: $40.00 to $49.00 per hour. Starting wage will be based on the successful candidate's experience, technical capabilities, and overall fit for the role.

ABOUT THE POSITION

APR is seeking an experienced Shop Foreman to lead our repair and machine shop operations. This is a hands-on leadership role with overall responsibility for the day-to-day performance of the shop, including Pump Mechanics, Machinists, Rotating Equipment Technologists, and Service Technicians.

The Shop Foreman is responsible for safety, quality, productivity, workflow coordination, employee development, and the successful execution of all work performed within the shop. The successful candidate will spend most of their time on the shop floor supporting employees, coordinating work, solving technical challenges, and ensuring repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to APR quality standards.

The ideal candidate will combine strong people leadership skills with extensive conventional machining experience, advanced measurement and inspection knowledge, and a practical understanding of industrial repair operations.

- Must have a Customer Service oriented mindset!
- Must be available to work after hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required to support emergency breakdowns, urgent customer needs, and 24/7 pump repair operations.
- Lead, coach, and support Pump Mechanics, Machinists, Rotating Equipment Technologists, and Service Technicians.

Shop Operations

- Oversee daily shop operations and workflow.
- Coordinate labour, equipment, and resources to meet customer commitments.
- Establish priorities and balance workloads across departments.
- Monitor job progress and resolve production bottlenecks.
- Support scheduling, capacity planning, and resource allocation.
- Assist with inbound sales inquiries and customer service calls as required.
- Work with customers to understand repair requirements, provide technical guidance, and support positive customer relationships.
- Ensure jobs progress efficiently from inspection through final testing and shipment.

Technical Leadership

- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support.
- Assist with complex repair, machining, and assembly challenges.
- Review repair requirements and recommend appropriate repair methods.
- Support repair planning, inspections, and job execution.
- Ensure repairs meet company and customer requirements.

Machine Shop Leadership

- Provide leadership and technical oversight within the machine shop.
- Support conventional machining operations including lathes, mills, boring mills, and related equipment.
- Review machining methods, dimensions, tolerances, and repair specifications.
- Assist machinists with technical and production challenges.
- Support improvements in quality, productivity, and shop processes.
- Establish critical dimensions, fits, and tolerances required for successful repairs.
- Develop manufacturing information, technical documentation, and repair procedures for repaired or replaced components.
- Determine machining allowances, repair tolerances,



material requirements, and repair methods.
- Reverse engineering worn or obsolete components where OEM drawings or specifications are unavailable.

Quality & Measurement

- Establish critical dimensions, fits, and tolerances required for successful repairs.
- Develop manufacturing information, technical documentation, and repair procedures for repaired or replaced components.
- Determine machining allowances, repair tolerances, material requirements, and repair methods.
- Reverse engineering worn or obsolete components where OEM drawings or specifications are unavailable.
- Maintain high standards for inspection and workmanship.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Verify dimensions, fits, tolerances, and repair quality.
- Utilize and support the use of precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, height gauges, thread gauges and depth gauges.
- Ensure repair documentation and quality records are accurate and complete.

Safety

- Promote and maintain a safe work environment.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in hazard identification and corrective actions.
- Lead by example in maintaining safe work practices.

Experience & Skills

- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a machine shop, industrial repair, manufacturing, or maintenance environment.
- Strong people management, coaching, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead and develop skilled trades and technical employees.
- Extensive conventional machining experience.
- Strong understanding of machining practices, fits, tolerances, and repair methods.
- Advanced knowledge of precision measurement and dimensional inspection.
- Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and related measuring equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Hands-on mechanical aptitude and practical repair experience.

Additional Assets

- Experience in pump repair and rotating equipment.
- Experience leading machinists, mechanics, millwrights, technicians, or other skilled trades personnel.
- Knowledge of welding, machining, and mechanical repair processes.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience working in municipal, industrial, mining, manufacturing, or service environments.

Pay: $40.00-$49.00 per hour
