Position Summary
As a member of the Specialized Learning Supports school-linked teams, the Social Worker Consultant provides a range of social work services to schools including conducting psycho-social assessments and clinical interventions as well as providing social work services to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Grounded in a systems-based approach, this role considers the students within the broader context of their environment and prioritizes practices that are trauma-informed and affirm neurodiversity.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Conduct specialized risk assessments including reviewing student records and conducting psycho-social interviews with at-risk students and their families.
- Deliver individual counselling to students and families to address specific issues including anxiety, self-esteem, bullying and trauma or grief.
- Provide referral services to additional Division resources or to external social services, medical or community agencies.
- Act as a member of Critical Incident Support Services Team,
providing supports to school staff and crisis counselling to individual and small groups of students when critical incidents impact the safety, health and well-being of the school community.
- Participate in complex case consultations and restorative processes using trauma-informed and neuroaffirming approaches to support student needs, well-being, and successful participation in the school workplace. Design and deliver professional learning to deepen Division-wide understanding of student needs, family systems, trauma, neurodiversity, and mental health.
Education/Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work
- Active registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers
- A minimum of three years experience providing intensive case management and delivering individual counselling to students
- Knowledge and applied practice of trauma-informed, neuroaffirming, and systems-based approaches within educational and community settings
- Experience participating and facilitating complex case conferences and restorative conversations Experience conducting specialized risk assessments
Rate of Pay $54.10 - $69.19 per hour
