Reporting to the Director, Learner Services, the Student Life Coordinator (SLC) is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing an annual Student Activities Calendar which includes events and activities that facilitate student socialization, encourages active healthy living, supports students’ exploration of personal interests, and encourages involvement in extra-curricular activities that promote personal growth, community building and leadership skills.
The SLC will have continuous communication with students in both the single and family housing to encourage student engagement throughout the academic year. The SLC will liaise with community agencies and groups and ensure students are informed of activities and opportunities to participate in the larger Cambridge Bay community.
The SLC is accountable for student governance and as such, will also advise and assist the Student Council in organizing their events and activities. The SLC also works closely with the Student Services team and supports efforts to secure funding for programming.
The knowledge, skills,
and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through the completion of an undergraduate degree in education, human resource development, career development or a related field with two (2) years of related work experience. Completion of a post-secondary certificate or diploma in recreation is an asset.
Conditions Of Employment
- Class 4 driver’s license must be obtained within the probationary period.
- First Aid, CPR and basic Suicide Intervention certificate must be obtained within the probationary period.
This is a position of trust, and a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check is required. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in English is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural workplace are also considered assets.
Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position. We encourage you to apply if you have equivalent years of education and/or experience equal to the education and experience requirements listed above.
As this is a term position until 2029, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
An eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies.
