About the Role

We are launching a new transportation and logistics operation and are looking for an experienced Transportation Operations Manager to work directly with ownership in building and managing the business.

We are looking for someone with practical trucking and logistics experience who understands carrier sourcing, freight operations, rate negotiation, dispatch, and Canada/U.S. transportation.

This is a hands-on role with significant responsibility and an opportunity to help shape the operation from its early stages.

Responsibilities

- Help establish the operational structure, processes and systems for the business
- Build and maintain relationships with trucking companies, carriers and owner-operators
- Source reliable capacity for available freight
- Negotiate carrier rates and manage load profitability
- Coordinate shipments from pickup through delivery
- Handle dispatch, tracking, appointments, PODs and service issues
- Qualify and onboard new carriers, including insurance and compliance documentation
- Develop dependable carrier coverage for key lanes
- Manage Canada/U.S. cross-border shipments
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and grow the operation
- Assist in hiring and training additional operations staff as the business expands

Qualifications

- 3+ years of experience in transportation, trucking, freight brokerage or 3PL operations




- Robust understanding of truckload freight and carrier operations
- Experience sourcing and negotiating with external carriers
- Existing relationships with trucking companies and carriers are a strong asset
- Knowledge of the Canada and U.S. freight markets
- Cross-border transportation experience
- Experience with transportation management systems and load boards
- Strong communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and take ownership of an operation

Ideal Background

Experience as a Transportation Operations Manager, Carrier Sales Representative, Freight Broker, Logistics Manager, Carrier Manager, or Senior Dispatcher would be well suited to this position.
