We are a busy couple with three young children, expecting a fourth child in November. As of this fall, our children’s ages will be 0, 2, 4, and 6 years old. We live in Alta Vista in Ottawa, Ontario and have a docile friendly cat as our sole pet.
Our eldest two children are in school, and our 2 year old and newborn will be at home. We are looking for live out nanny support, ideally someone who drives, starting now and/or especially by November when our fourth child will be born.
We are likely looking for two different childcare providers to help us during our busiest parenting times, each regularly doing one of the shifts described below. Perhaps one of these shifts appeals to you?
First childcare provider shift (10 hours/week): 7:30 am to 9:30 am, Monday to Friday. We are looking for someone to come to our home weekday mornings to help with the following:
1. 7:30-8 am: lightly tidy the kitchen before children wake up (e.g., load/empty dishwasher, sweep, put away items left out from the night before);
2. 8 am: prep a light healthy breakfast for the children (e.g., berries and yogurt)
3. 8-8:30 am: be an added help and presence, in addition to their mother being present, while children eat and get dressed for school
4. 8:30 am: Help mother get three children into the car
5. 8:40 am: tidy the kitchen and main floor area after we have departed for school drop off, perhaps start meal prepping dinner or fold/put away clean laundry if time allows (i.e., reset the home before ending your shift at 9:30 am)
**Note: After November, once our fourth child is born, we will ask this childcare provider to either stay home with our two youngest children while a parent drives the older children to school,
OR ask this childcare provider to drive the older two to school while the mother stays home with the younger children.
Second childcare provider shift (25 hours/week): 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. We are looking for someone to come to our home weekday afternoons to help with the following:
1. 12:30 pm: quietly arrive when 2 year old is napping (mother and newborn may be awake or may also be napping when you arrive)
2. 12:30 pm: if children stay asleep, lightly tidy the home and meal prep during this quiet time (e.g., load/empty dishwasher, sweep, put away items left out on main floor, perhaps fold and put away clean laundry, chop vegetables and prepare family dinner if time allows)
3. 1:30 pm: play with 2 year old when their nap time ends, and hold and care for newborn if awake/didn’t sleep and mother needs more rest, OR be an added help and presence, alongside mother, while children are awake and mother doesn’t yet have to leave for school pick-up run
4. 3:15 pm: watch younger two children while mother picks up older two children from school, OR swap roles and you pick up the older two from school, OR help mother get all children in the car by 3:15 pm if an after-school activity is planned involving all children leaving the home together
5. 4:00 pm: if solo without children, help get dinner on the table for 5:30 pm or help tidy the home, OR if all children are now home,
help mother with childcare and dinner prep for that 1-1.5 hours before their father returns home.
