This Data Architect will be involved in projects and work with the team to achieve high quality data integrations, and be responsible for the design and development of scalable data solutions. This competitively rewarded role will enjoy hybrid working arrangements that can primarily be fulfilled from the Vancity head office location and a Lower Mainland based home office. Periodically in‑person events or activities will be required.A typical day would involve:Develop frameworks, models and roadmaps for the Data Platform and align them with strategic goals.Provide leadership on the design and end‑to‑end solutions for building data and analytics applications on cloud and on‑premises platforms.Recommend architecture and design choices that emphasize ease of production support and lower Azure costs during sustainment.Establish and monitor Data Architectures, including applicable standards, patterns and best practices.Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture teams to align the product breakdown with the overall technology landscape, ensuring proper positioning of capabilities and avoiding duplication.Facilitate and conduct requirements workshops and proofs of concept to drive overall technical delivery in projects.Collaborate closely with Data Engineers and Data Analysts to provide work breakdown aligned with Agile methodologies, fostering seamless teamwork and project efficiency.Transform current workforce to adapt to cloud native technologies.Conduct regular reviews of work in progress so that alignment with the defined Data Architectures can be validated.Review and provide high‑level estimates for project proposals and solution designs.You are:Customer‑centric: You define and measure success through the eyes of your internal customers and anticipate, understand and respond to their evolving needs. You have a demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders to elicit requirements, analyse findings, generate appropriate solutions, and build deliverables while securing the team’s commitment to these solutions.Technology savvy: You have education and/or experience supporting technology development and implementation efforts.Curious and innovative: You always do your research and analysis to assess and recommend a course of action based on industry, political and economic trends, and you can identify risks and opportunities that may impact the business unit or designated area.You have:Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical discipline.7+ years of industry experience in Data Engineering or a related field handling data processing and transformation of disparate datasets.Hands‑on experience implementing and supporting large‑scale ETL in production.Proficiency in big data and analytics programming languages such as Python, R and Spark in Databricks.Hands‑on experience implementing encryption key management on Azure services, including Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse and Data Lake, along with operational support expertise.Successful track record of architecting at least one cloud data warehouse implementation.Familiarity with real‑time processing frameworks such as Event Hub, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka,
etc.Strong knowledge of industry frameworks and best practices in Data Architecture.Demonstrated ability to thrive in a highly flexible workplace with multiple competing priorities.Proven ability to innovate and adapt to the latest developments in your area of expertise, and the ability to quickly grasp recent skills and content.Clear and persuasive communication skills to educate colleagues on the merits of architecture and design choices.Bonus points if you have:Related Microsoft Azure certifications.Familiarity with Dev Sec Ops practices, incorporating security‑first principles.Knowledge of data privacy and compliance regulations and their implementation in data architectures.Experience with data governance and data quality management practices.Familiarity with ARIS.Salary Range$81,200 – $122,000We offerCompetitive benefits packages that can be customized and changed each year to meet evolving employee needs.Three to four weeks of vacation allowance per calendar year, growing to a maximum of six weeks as service length increases.
