Primarily day shift, with the flexibility to work evenings as requiredSalary Range: $129,610 - $155,532 per year (wage rate effective September 1, 2025)Start Date: To commence as soon as possibleBoard Information: 12-month position; permanent; full-time; Administrative Employees; Non-UnionVacancy Status: This posting is for an existing vacancyReporting to the Superintendent of People, Leadership & Culture, the Manager of Health and Safety is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, and continuously improving the Board's comprehensive health and safety management system. Through consultation, education, coaching, monitoring, and enforcement, this role ensures the health, safety, and well-being of staff, students, visitors, and contractors across all Board locations.As the Board's subject matter expert on occupational health and safety, the Manager provides strategic leadership and advice to senior administration, school administrators, the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), employee groups, and external stakeholders.



The position ensures compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, standards, and codes while minimizing organizational risk and promoting a culture of safety.The Manager oversees health and safety programs, emergency preparedness, violence prevention, injury prevention, risk management, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance activities across approximately 78 Board sites.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the board's Health and Safety Management System to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, standards, and board policiesMonitor changes to occupational health and safety legislation, codes, standards, and best practices, providing guidance and recommendations to senior administration and staffDevelop, implement, review, and deliver health and safety policies, procedures, programs, and training initiativesAct as the board's primary resource and advisor on health and safety mattersSupport and provide direction to the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)Promote and reinforce the Internal Responsibility System throughout the organizationOversee the board's incident reporting and investigation processesManage and monitor injury reporting compliance, corrective actions, and follow‑up activitiesConduct investigations into workplace incidents, critical injuries, unsafe work conditions, work refusals, and work stoppagesAnalyze injury trends and identify opportunities for preventative initiatives and cost reduction strategiesDevelop and implement system-wide corrective actions and injury prevention programsDesign, develop and deliver health and safety education programsLiaise with government agencies and regulatory bodiesProvide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance oversight to the Health and Safety teamFoster a culture of accountability, engagement, collaboration, and continuous improvement related to health and safetyOther duties as assignedExperience and QualificationsUniversity degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredCanadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Safety Skilled (CSP) designationJoint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) CertificationMinimum 5-7 years of progressive health and safety experienceMinimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experienceExperience in a large, multi‑site,



unionized environmentExperience developing and implementing health and safety policies, programs, and trainingExperience in the education sector is considered an assetExpert knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated regulationsStrong knowledge of the Fire Code, Building Code, and related standardsDemonstrated expertise in workplace investigations, hazard assessments, and risk managementStrong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to interpret complex legislation and dataExceptional communication, presentation, facilitation, and report‑writing skillsProven ability to build relationships and influence diverse groups in both unionized and non‑unionized environmentsExcellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlinesStrong leadership, coaching, and team development skillsAdvanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ebaseValid Ontario Driver's License and access to reliable transportationAbility and willingness to travel regularly among approximately 78 Board sitesPlease note: An original Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) must be provided prior to the commencement of employment (if the successful candidate is external).
