Location
This position is expected to work out of Seaton Village in Pickering, Ontario, but could be at any of our other locations based on operational requirements (Oshawa, Whitby, Beaverton).
Mechanical Maintenance Worker
This position is responsible for coordinating projects to maintain and upgrade the internal condition of the facility to assist in the provision of a safe and healthy workplace for those who live, work or visit the Home.
Specifically, the incumbent will:
- Perform general building maintenance and repairs
- Conduct equipment audits
- Clean, sterilize and maintain a wide range of equipment
- Record work history for the preventative maintenance programs
- Order and maintain an inventory of building equipment supplies as required
- Conduct fire drills and fire extinguisher practice sessions, as needed, to ensure all staff have training and knowledge of equipment and relevant policies of the Home
The successful applicant will possess:
- Completion of a Facilities Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program or a Class 1 Building Environmental Systems Certificate; candidates with a BES Class 2 will also be considered and will be expected to obtain their BES Class 1 within 2 years from date of hire.
An appropriate combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
- Several years previous experience, preferably in a long term care environment
- Sound knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Policies
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft computer applications
- The ability to work with minimal supervision
- The ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Proven communication, time management, organization, team work and customer service skills
- Knowledge of Regional and Services for Seniors Policies and Procedures would be considered an asset
Hours of Work:
Successful candidates must be available to work during day shifts (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and alternate weekends. Hours may change due to operational requirements of the home for special projects. Candidates will receive sufficient notice prior to shift change.
Schedules are developed to support the care and service needs of residents and are posted in accordance with operational practices. As such, scheduling cannot be coordinated around other employment commitments, personal availability, or individual preferences. We are seeking flexible team members who can reliably support the operational needs of the home, including weekends, holidays, and additional shifts as required.
Mechanical Maintenance Worker Salary Information
- The hourly rate range for this position is $32.35 to $33.45.
Conditions of Employment
All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process. Prior to the start date, the successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within six (6) months from date of hire. Additionally, tuberculosis screening will be required in accordance with the FLTC Act (O.Reg. 246/22). Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected. Finally, compliance with the Mask Fit Testing Program is required and will be coordinated as part of the orientation process.
