Location

This position is expected to work out of Seaton Village in Pickering, Ontario, but could be at any of our other locations based on operational requirements (Oshawa, Whitby, Beaverton).

Maintenance Worker 2

This position is responsible for the physical plant within the home including duties of troubleshooting problems, maintaining and repairing equipment in compliance with building, plumbing, HVAC, gas and electrical codes and Long Term Care Standards. Specifically, the incumbent will:

- Repair and troubleshoot to ensure equipment is repaired and operating safely and efficiently
- Perform preventative maintenance to reduce the occurrence of unexpected high cost breakdowns and ensure equipment is operating safely
- Maintain inventory of appropriate items needed to perform timely repairs and reduce downtime of equipment
- Communicate to ensure managers and staff are aware of all repairs in progress, expected down times and length of interrupted service
- Maintain documentation for various inspectors regarding equipment inspection and maintenance in accordance with appropriate legislation
- Inspect and test equipment to meet legislated standards and to ensure that equipment will operate effectively and properly
- Meet with contractors and suppliers as necessary

The successful applicant will possess:

- Grade 12 education, plus a Certificate of Qualification from the Ministry of Training,



Colleges & Universities in a regulated trade relevant to building facilities maintenance operations, such as licensed Electricians or Plumbers
- Other related courses and/or certificates would be considered an asset
- Several years related job experience, preferably in a long term care setting
- Good understanding of Occupational Health & Safety Policies, WHMIS, Fire, Building, Plumbing, Gas & Electrical Codes, as well as demonstrated knowledge of HVAC systems
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft computer applications
- Proven mechanical skills and the ability to read blueprints
- Positive problem solving, organization, team work and general project management skills, as well as the ability to multitask and work independently
- The ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with individuals from diverse background
- Knowledge of Regional and Services for Seniors Policies and Procedures would be considered an asset

Hours of Work:

Successful candidates must be available to work a variety of shifts, including day shifts (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), alternate day shifts (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., where applicable) and may require shifts to be worked every other weekend as part of the regular dayshift rotation. Shifts may be scheduled across various units based on operational requirements.

Schedules are developed to support the care and service needs of residents and are posted in accordance with operational practices. As such, scheduling cannot be coordinated around other employment commitments, personal availability, or individual preferences. We are seeking flexible team members who can reliably support the operational needs of the home, including weekends, holidays, and additional shifts as required.





Maintenance Worker 2 Salary Information

- The hourly rate range for this position is $39.72 to $40.82.

Conditions of Employment

All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process. Prior to the start date, the successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within six (6) months from date of hire. Additionally, tuberculosis screening will be required in accordance with the FLTC Act (O.Reg. 246/22). Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected. Finally, compliance with the Mask Fit Testing Program is required and will be coordinated as part of the orientation process.
