Your Opportunity As Director, Academic Human Resources, you will provide strategic leadership, management, and vision for academic Human Resources services across the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Serving as a vital bridge between the Faculty and university-wide leadership, you will inspire and mentor a high-performing administrative team who deliver frontline counsel and guidance on academic policies across more than 40 academic and administrative units. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer and acting as a key strategic partner to the Office of the Dean, your team will expertly guide faculty leadership through the complex appointment, review, and promotion lifecycle for our extensive network of over 9,000 faculty members.
Along with advising on appointment offers for senior academic administrators and designing and implementing impactful onboarding experiences for chairs and directors, you will champion the Faculty's Academic Strategic Plan. Leveraging your operational insights, you will provide strategic support for new initiatives, task forces, and committees, playing an instrumental role in driving timely outcomes for key deliverables. Through this work, you will advance our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, helping to shape the Faculty's long-term strategic vision.
Essential Qualifications Graduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum ten years senior administrative experience within a university setting,
including a deep familiarity with the academic HR life cycle, tenure process, and University academic HR norms
Demonstrated experience in liaising with senior leaders, responding to and handling matters of a complex, confidential and sensitive nature
Demonstrated professional experience in understanding complex issues related to organizational policies and practices
Proven experience leading change and driving results through process evaluation and redesign
Proven experience developing, leading, and mentoring high-functioning teams
Experience interpreting human resources policies, legislation, and guidelines
Demonstrated success in implementing equity and diversity initiatives across a complex multi-sector environment
Data-driven with experience using various tools, performance metrics and approaches for analysis, decision-making and reporting
Strong technical skills, including knowledge of the University of Toronto’s Administrative Management System (AMS) and a facility for working with project management tools and keeping current with new and emerging technologies
Strong leadership skills with ability to engage, secure support, commitment and results from others
Outstanding interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Demonstrated knowledge of HR best practices and demonstrated commitment to the promotion of equity and inclusiveness in the workplace and the ability to work effectively with all constituents in a highly diverse community
Ability to influence and present ‘win/win’ solutions to effect change and problem-solve in a highly collegial setting
Strong integrative skills related to understanding cross functional implications and interrelationships of issues and decisions
Proven ability to work with a high degree of independence solving complex problems
Must be able to move complex initiatives forward in situations characterized by high levels of ambiguity and political sensitivity
Must exhibit a high degree of diplomacy and tact in all situations
Assets (Nonessential) Deep knowledge of the academic HR life cycle for clinical (MD) and non-clinical faculty, strongly preferred
Understanding of University governance, educational priorities, policy formation, legal obligations, reporting requirements and planning protocol
