Heavy Equipment Technician – Shop and Field Service
Location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Compensation: $35–$45 per hour
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Twin Staffing is recruiting experienced Heavy Equipment Technicians for a busy and growing equipment rental branch in Dartmouth. Opportunities are available for both Shop Technicians and Field Service Technicians .
These positions are ideal for skilled technicians who enjoy troubleshooting equipment, completing quality repairs and working on a varied rental fleet. Candidates may work primarily from the branch or travel to customer sites throughout the region, depending on their experience and preferred position.
Equipment You Will Work On
Boom lifts and aerial work platforms
Forklifts and material-handling equipment
Diesel-powered equipment
Related construction and rental fleet assets
Inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair rental fleet equipment
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and fuel-system issues
Complete preventive maintenance, inspections and scheduled repairs
Replace, recondition and install equipment components
Identify wear, damage, recurring defects and potential equipment failures
Confirm equipment is safe, functional and rental-ready before returning it to service
Accurately document labour, parts, repairs and follow-up requirements
Maintain a clean, organized and safe shop environment
Work closely with Service, Parts, Dispatch and branch leadership
Field Service Technician Responsibilities
Complete inspections, maintenance, diagnostics and repairs at customer locations
Respond to service calls and troubleshoot equipment independently
Repair boom lifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts and related equipment
Follow OEM service schedules and approved repair procedures
Provide skilled and responsive customer service
Communicate repair requirements,
delays and follow-up needs clearly
Maintain accurate service notes, work orders and parts documentation
Keep the company service vehicle, tools, parts and PPE organized
Follow all company and customer-site safety requirements
Coordinate with Dispatch, Service, Parts and technical-support teams
Qualifications
Previous experience repairing rental, construction, industrial or heavy equipment
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
Experience diagnosing hydraulic, electrical, mechanical and fuel-system issues
Ability to read equipment schematics, OEM guidance and service documentation
Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record
Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities
Basic computer or mobile-device skills for service documentation
Strong commitment to safety, repair quality and customer service
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Preferred Experience
Journeyperson or Red Seal certification in a related trade
Experience with aerial lifts, telehandlers, forklifts or material-handling equipment
Previous equipment rental or field-service experience
Familiarity with OEM maintenance schedules and fleet-readiness standards
Manufacturer, forklift, aerial lift or equipment-specific training
Red Seal certification is preferred for candidates seeking compensation at the top of the range. However, experienced technicians without certification are encouraged to apply.
