Provide direct individual and small-group support to students with complex or high needs.
Support learning, communication, emotional regulation, behaviour, sensory needs, mobility, social development, personal care, and daily school routines.
Implement strategies and accommodations identified in Individual Program Plans, Behaviour Support Plans, safety plans, and other individualized supports under the direction of the teacher and student support team.
Use positive, relationship-based and trauma-informed behaviour support, including approved de-escalation and crisis-prevention strategies.
Observe student progress and maintain accurate, timely, objective, factual, and confidential documentation.
Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, school administration, families, Educational Assistants, specialists, therapists, counsellors, cultural and language staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other members of the student support team.
Provide personal and physical support, where required, in a manner that protects student dignity, privacy, safety, choice, and independence.
Support students during transportation, field trips, cultural activities, land-based learning, community activities, and other school programming.
Support meaningful participation in Stoney Nakoda language, culture, traditions, community, and land-based learning.
Follow established student health, medical, personal-care, safety, emergency, and school procedures within the employee’s authorized scope and training.
Education & Experience
Certificate,



diploma, or post-secondary education in Educational Assistance, Child and Youth Care, Disability Studies, Early Learning and Child Care, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Education, or a related field is preferred.
An equivalent combination of relevant education, specialized training, and directly related experience may be considered.
Previous experience providing direct support to children or youth with complex or high needs is strongly preferred.
Experience supporting behavioural, developmental, emotional, communication, sensory, physical, or learning needs is considered an asset.
Experience implementing Individual Program Plans, Behaviour Support Plans, safety plans, or similar individualized support plans is preferred.
Experience in a school, specialized education program, disability support environment, child and youth service setting, or Indigenous community is considered an asset.
Strong ability to establish trusting and respectful relationships with students.
Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, relationship-based, positive behaviour support, crisis-prevention, and de-escalation approaches.
Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately in challenging or rapidly changing situations.
Ability to follow individualized support plans and established school procedures consistently.




Ability to observe student behaviour and progress and document information objectively and accurately.
Solid communication, collaboration, teamwork, confidentiality, and professional-boundary skills.
Patience, compassion, flexibility, professionalism, emotional maturity, and a commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive education.
Respect for Stoney Nakoda culture, language, traditions, community, and ways of knowing. Knowledge of Stoney Nakoda language and culture is a strong asset; willingness to participate in language and cultural learning is expected.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Three professional references satisfactory to Stoney Education Authority.
Additional training or certification related to student safety, crisis prevention, First Aid, behaviour support, personal care, or specialized student needs may be required depending on the assignment.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the assignment, which may include standing, walking, bending, assisting with student mobility, responding quickly during safety situations, and providing personal care.
Assignment may change between students, classrooms, programs, or learning environments based on student needs and operational requirements.
