Job Description
The Crisis Nurse provides specialized mental health nursing assessment, consultation, and intervention to individuals presenting to the Emergency Department with acute mental health and/or addictions concerns. Working collaboratively with the Emergency Department team, the Crisis Nurse supports timely identification of mental health needs, clinical risk assessment, stabilization, treatment planning, and appropriate disposition.
The Crisis Nurse serves as a clinical resource to Emergency Department physicians, nurses, and other members of the interprofessional team, providing expert consultation for patients experiencing mental health or substance use crises. The role promotes a collaborative, trauma-informed,
recovery-oriented approach and supports care that is safe, person-centred, and responsive to the individual's immediate clinical needs.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3years' experiencein a psychiatric emergency setting.
Experience working with individuals with substance use and/or addictions is an asset.
Excellent crisis intervention, de-escalation, clinical assessment, supportive counselling skills
Exemplary communication skills.
Proven ability in problem solving, decision making, and conflict resolution.
Knowledge of and ability to access community resources.
Must be able to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a fast paced, demanding environment.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Ontario Mental Health Act, PHIPA, HCCA.
Sound knowledge of the principles of the therapeutic relationship and their application to Crisis Intervention.
Demonstrates excellent organizational, time-management skills, and team building skills.
Excellent work performance, punctuality, and attendance.
Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
Proficiency in computer skills.
Additional Information
Hours : Monday -Sundays 7.5 hour day shifts 0800-1600 (hours subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $41.15 to $58.98 per hour
