Bird Infrastructure, a reputable integrated mechanical contractor with offices across Ontario and Atlantic Canada, is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to join our Support Services Team at our Newmarket, Ontario location.
The ideal candidate will report the Health & Safety Manager and responsibilities will include:
Assist the Health & Safety Manager with all aspects of their responsibilities across the Bird Group of companies;
Assist with filing and record keeping in accordance with OHSA and Bird Infrastructure;
Ensure our Health and Safety Policy is kept up to date and reviewed annually;
Assist with maintaining COR status with IHSA;
Track Employee training and ensure it is in compliance with laws, company policy and site requirements;
Schedule training as required for staff;
Assist Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Site Superintendents and Project Forepersons with safety compliance, reports and job hazard analysis;
Create and implement confined space procedures for sites as require;
If required, participate in JHSC meetings;
Complete meeting minutes as required;
Assist with creating and reviewing job hazard analysis, crane lift plans and other safety documents;
Complete regular job site inspections;
Complete regular inspections on PPE;
Complete internal audits for continuous improvement;
Investigate incidents, accidents and near misses, complete reports as required in accordance with our health and safety policy;
Ensure subcontractor compliance with health and safety annual prequalification program;
Complete and ensure compliance with other client required safety organizations such as ISN and Contractor Check;
Complete Orientations for newly hired employees and ensure all required documentation is submitted prior to them starting work;
Complete WSIB paperwork as required for inquires and accidents;
Continue to enforce and implement our return to work policies;
Be available for staff to consult with for safety measures;
Work to continuously improve our programs procedures and WSIB ratings;
Provide vacation and lunch break coverage for reception as required;
Assist Atlantic Canada Operations as required;
Assist the Director, Support Services and Health & Safety Manager as required;
Assist with administrative or clerical duties as required;
Other duties as may be required or assigned;
The ideal candidate will posses the following qualities:
Minimum 1 year of previous Health & Safety experience in a similar role;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, One Drive);
Construction industry knowledge and experience an asset;
Experience with the COR program and its requirements considered an asset;
Experience with Procore’s Quality & Safety module considered an asset;
G Drivers license;
CSA approved safety boots are mandatory when on site;
