Job Description Delivering occupational therapy in a clinical setting puts your expertise at the forefront of patient care during critical moments of functional transition. As an Occupational Therapist, Adult at Mount Sinai Hospital, you'll bring specialized functional expertise to one dedicated care area, developing a strong understanding of in the unique needs of that population over time. You’ll address multifaceted patient presentations, applying targeted cognitive, physical, and environmental adaptations to drive functional recovery. Daily engagement with multidisciplinary colleagues and same-discipline peers creates a collaborative ecosystem where complex cases are solved together. This environment gives you the ideal balance of unit-level specialization, professional development, and broad clinical impact.
Occupational Therapy in Adult Care means working with patients navigating sudden, significant change to their function, often within days of an injury, illness or surgery. The pace of an acute setting sharpens your ability to complete timely cognitive and functional assessments while translating them into practical recommendations that shape a patient's discharge plan. This early-stage work strengthens your clinical judgment in ways that carry through the rest of your career.
Is this you?
A creative, problem-solving mindset guides your approach when clinical needs intersect with social and financial realities. Applying solution focused thinking allows you to navigate layered background factors, from home environment constraints to financial limitations. By pairing clinical observation with practical equipment selection, you design achievable disposition plans for unique patient scenarios.

This resourceful approach resolves multifaceted disposition barriers, ensuring every patient transitions to the next stage of their journey with a secure and achievable care plan.
Priorities can shift frequently in this setting, and your ability to adapt is what keeps care moving. A hospital surge might call you to support a different clinical area, a new time-sensitive referral might land on your list, or a patient you'd planned to see may no longer be medically appropriate for therapy. You reprioritize without losing track of what still needs to get done, helping to keep patient care steady no matter how the day shifts.
Navigating the timelines of adult care relies on your confident, structured clinical judgment. A patient recovering from surgery one day might be managing a new neurological complication the next, requiring you to translate that change into a clear plan for mobility and safety. Your instinct for quick, well-supported decision-making will sharpen with every case, enhancing your clinical confidence.
