This position is also responsible for coordinating switching for planned and emergency maintenance as well as system restoration while ensuring an optimum level of supply is obtained from the distribution system.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESOperate and monitor computerized switchboards and auxiliary equipment in electrical control centers to control the distribution and to regulate the flow of electrical power in the transmission or distribution networkCoordinate, schedule and direct generating station and substation power loads and line voltages to meet distribution demands during daily operations, system outages, repairs and importing or exporting of powerMonitor and visually inspect station instruments, meters and alarms to ensure transmission voltages and line loadings are within prescribed limits and to detect equipment failure,
line disturbances and outagesCreate and issue Permitting System permits to electrical and mechanical maintenance personnel, assist maintenance and technical personnel to locate and isolate system problems, and assist during routine system testingComplete and maintain station records, logs and reportsAdhere to applicable safety and environmental standards, regulations and corporate commitmentsParticipate in continuous educational and professional development, both internal and external and driver's licencing upgrades, as required by the positionMaintain a clean and orderly work areaUtilize SaskPower's computer operating environment as required by the positionDirect, coach, train, orient and work effectively with other staffOther related duties, as assignedKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIESDiploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology, Interprovincial Journeyed Electrician and a valid Saskatchewan Electrical Journeyperson Licence, Interprovincial Journeyperson Power Line Technician Certificate, or equivalent AND; Experience in an electrical utility in a related field, or equivalentExcellent analytical and problem solving skillsEffective communication skills,
both verbally and in writingAble and willing to follow established procedures and execute them in a professional mannerPossess the ability to make and implement sound decisions under emergent conditionsAbility to work in an enclosed environment and work shift work as requiredAbility to cooperate and deal tactfully with othersValid Class 5 driver's licenceNOTESCandidates under consideration will be required to participate in an assessment process.Candidates with two (2) or more years of experience in classification 1302 (System Operator, Provincial) are qualified to participate in the assessment for this role. Candidates who have already participated in a current assessment for classification 1302 will bypass the assessment process.Candidates will be required to undertake and successfully complete the required System Operator training and/or certificates within 24 months of being appointed to the position. If employee fails to achieve fully qualified status within the allowed time frame shall be reverted to their previous rate of pay and will be required to procure another position through the bidding procedure in the following 30 calendar day period.
