Schedule may change with two weeks' noticeProbationary/qualifying period will be 488 hours with mid and end point reviewsSalary$27.17 - 28.97 depending upon applicants' length of seniority (as per the Collective Agreement)Job SummaryThe Cook reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society including following Lookout's Code of Ethics. The Cook prepares, cooks, and serves daily meals and is responsible for ensuring availability of food and beverages for guests. Maintains a high standard of cleanliness in eating and prep areas.This position requires successful completion of respirator fit testing, as Lookout is COR (Certificate of Recognition) certified and must comply with WorkSafeBC health and safety requirements. To ensure a proper respirator seal during fit testing and use, employees are required to be clean-shaven where the respirator seals against the face.Job DutiesPrepare, cook, and serve daily meals,
snacks and beveragesEnsure availability of food for guests after hoursMaintain high standard of cleanliness throughout kitchen, dining, storage areas and equipmentWork with and oversee kitchen volunteersFollow set menu and itemize supplies requiredWill organize and complete required work in a secure, clean and friendly environmentSome shopping may occurResponsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety programEmployees are expected to remain alert and attentive during working hours. Sleeping during shifts is not permitted.Qualifications & CompetenceMinimum Grade 12 education and Cooking Diploma plus two (2) years of recent related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceMust have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 and FOODSAFE Certificate from the Department of HealthExperience with institutions or large organizations including experience with cost analysis and effectivenessExperience in menu planning and developing order supply listsCrisis Intervention Skills Training is an assetAbility to work independently or in a team setting and to manage and organize daily workloadDemonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writingMust understand and maintain clientele/worker boundariesAbility to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environmentQuick learner and self-motivatedStrong physical and mental ability to perform work tasksMust be able to operate job related equipmentA minimum two (2) years of sobriety if you have had concerns related to alcohol and/or drug useCriminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable SectorClosing DateApplications will be accepted until October 1, 2026 at 5:00 pm
