Baseball Operations Entry Level OpportunitiesThe Toronto Blue Jays are seeking highly motivated and creative individuals to assist with day-to-day tasks across various areas of Baseball Operations, including Scouting, Player Development, High Performance, and Research & Development/Analytics. Start and end dates are flexible depending on the specific role, and we will consider both full-season and partial-season candidates. We will match your skills and experiences to available opportunities.Role SummariesPlayer Development TechnologyThis role is ideal for candidates interested in working closely with coaches and players through embedding themselves with teams at the Blue Jays' development complexes or affiliates.Responsibilities may include:Serving as the point person for video, technology, and data resourcesDeploying and operating technology for recording data during both practice and game settingsOrganizing, cataloging, distributing, and reviewing video and data/advance resources for affiliate staff and other PD personnelContributing to advance scouting and game planning preparation and deliveryHelping to track player goals and progress over the course of the season and collaborating across departments (Minor League Operations, Nutrition, High Performance) to support projects and processesAssisting with on-field activities (batting practice, fungos, catching pens) and day-to-day logistical needs of the team as neededProficiency in Microsoft Office is required. Prior experience with baseball video charting and baseball-related data and video capture systems (such as Hawkeye, Trackman, high-speed cameras) is beneficial. Knowledge of baseball rules, scoring, and pitch identification is also considered an asset. Spanish proficiency is also helpful and may be required in some cases.Operations (Scouting, Baseball Operations, Player Development)Candidates with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail will support the logistical and administrative functions of the scouting, player development,



or baseball operations departments.Responsibilities may include:Organizing, entering, and maintaining data and/or video resourcesSupporting departmental administrative tasks (expense reports, compiling statistics and rosters, meeting logistics, etc.) and responding to ad-hoc logistical or organizational needsContributing to player evaluation processes through review of video and dataIn the Player Development department, additional duties may include translating documents to/from English and Spanish, and assisting with integration of technology into on-field or lab workMicrosoft Office (especially Excel) proficiency is crucialKnowledge of baseball rules and regulations is also a strong assetSpanish proficiency will be beneficial (required in some cases).Proficiency with data management and analysis tools like SQL, R, Python is considered an asset.Advance Scouting/Game Preparation and PlanningThis role involves supporting the Major League team or a minor league affiliate team with game-by-game and series-by-series preparation, using strong baseball knowledge to assist with.Responsibilities may include:Collecting and organizing statistics for scouting reports, identifying patterns in player performance and team tendenciesEditing and assembling video clips/visual presentations relevant to upcoming matchupsConducting ad-hoc research and analysis on players or the game of baseball in generalWatching video to provide written evaluations and insights to coaching staff, helping to shape game strategiesSupporting on-field video and data collection during games and practice, and operating game-prep technologyUsing analytical reporting and/or data science skills to create new game preparation resources, post-game or performance feedback reports, or other tools to support the teamCandidates with excellent knowledge of baseball rules and strategy and strong time management and organizational skills will excel here. Proficiency in video editing software and tools like R, Shiny, is considered an asset.Research & DevelopmentThis role is geared towards analytical thinkers passionate about using data to uncover new insights in baseball.Responsibilities may include:Conducting self-directed research using R, Python, SQL or similar toolsWorking on areas like data acquisition, organization, and cleaning, as well as statistical modeling and visualizationPresenting research findings to front office members, coaches, or players, ensuring the work is accessible and actionableProviding logistical support during major baseball events like the Draft or Trade DeadlineIn addition to the technological background mentioned above, experience with advanced modelling techniques or other specialized skills (Computer Vision, AI, Bayesian Modeling, Anomaly Detection, Time Series etc.)



is considered an asset.Baseball Systems App DevelopmentThis role focuses on creating and supporting internal web applications for Baseball Operations.Responsibilities may include:Designing intuitive front-end web interfaces for internal baseball information systemsCollaborating with end users to gather requirements, ensuring systems meet operational needsExperiencing and providing logistical support to key points on the baseball calendarExperience with software engineering and web development is important, and examples of relevant work can be helpful in demonstrating your capabilitiesBaseball Systems Data EngineeringThis role focuses on creating and supporting the databases used by Baseball Operations.Responsibilities may includeEngineering systems to acquire and store new datasets, improving data accessibilityCollaborating with end users to gather requirements, ensuring systems meet operational needsExperiencing and providing logistical support to key points on the baseball calendarExperience with data engineering and database management is important, and examples of relevant work can be helpful in demonstrating your capabilitiesPerformance ScienceThis role is ideal for candidates interested in applying biomechanics and sports science research methods to generate insights into player movement, performance, and development. Successful candidates will be curious, self-directed learners with solid problem-solving skills and an interest in using data to answer complex questions in baseball.Responsibilities may include:Conduct self-directed research using SQL, R, Python, or similar tools to analyze biomechanical, sports science, and baseball datasets, uncover trends, maintain data quality, and deliver meaningful insightsBuilding reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to communicate findings to coaches, players, and front office staffResearching and evaluating emerging technologies, analytical methods, and scientific literature relevant to player performance and healthCollaborating with stakeholders across Scouting, Player Development, High Performance, and R&D to develop and answer research questionsAssisting with the collection, organization, and management of biomechanical and performance dataExperience working with large spatial, biomechanical, or performance science datasets is considered an asset. Experience collecting or processing motion capture, force plate, wearable sensor, or other athlete performance data is also beneficial. Familiarity with advanced baseball analytics, machine learning, or statistical modeling techniques is considered an asset.
