Laboratory AssistantStratum Analytical, Oshawa, ONPermanent, Full Time37.5 hours/weekNo Direct ReportsPOSITION SUMMARY:The Laboratory Assistant supports daily laboratory operations by assisting with laboratory maintenance, sample preparation, routine testing, environmental monitoring, equipment maintenance, and record keeping. Working under established SOPs, the role helps ensure accurate documentation, adequate laboratory supplies, and compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards while providing technical and administrative support to laboratory staff.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Cleaning, sterilize and maintaining the laboratory and its equipmentWaste disposal supportPreparing reagents, solutions, and other laboratory materialReceiving, gathering and prepping client samplesPreparing shipments to subcontractorsRestocking of suppliesData entryInventory managementLaboratory SupportAssist laboratory staff in conducting analytical testing, including recording observations and data accuratelySample Preparation and ManagementAs proficiency and training is completed, begin independently conducting more complex testing (Method Suitability, Sterility Testing, Microbial Identification)Environmental MonitoringRecord, report and investigate unexpected test resultsEnsure all equipment and systems are operating within established calibration guidelines; notify manager promptlyof calibration failures and repair needsEnsures results are appropriately documented in standardized format and recorded in a timely mannerDocument ManagementPreparing documentation (workorders, worksheets, Lab Reports)Follows protocols regarding document lifecycle: storage, handing, retention, transmission and destructionScans,
file and creates storage systems for documentation that improve efficiencyKeep documents organized and stored according to appropriate naming conventionsCompliance ManagementComplies with company policies and all applicable SOPs; complies with ISO 17025, ISO 9001, ICH guidelines, Health Canada requirements and Quality Control GuidelinesMaintains familiarity on use of all applicable equipment, systems, and procedures (SOPs)Assists in back up support of all laboratory workstations as requiredMaintains GDP according to ALCOA principalsMaintains clean, orderly, and safe laboratory work area and follows all laboratory health and safety policiesParticipates in team discussions and assists in achieving team goalsQUALIFICATIONS:Experience in ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 beneficialExperience in GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) is preferredExperience in housekeeping, sanitation, and environmental maintenanceStrong attention to detail and accuracyExcellent organizational and record-keeping skillsBasic computer proficiency and data entry skillsExperience in a microbiology and/or chemistry laboratories a plusExcellent decision making and interpersonal skillsPhysical dexterity to perform testing accurately and preciselyAbility to read, understand and comply with Company policies and SOPs, including safety rules and regulationsIntermediate level computer skills in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel,
