Boarding staff play a key role in the lives of our boarding students.What We OfferShift: Sunday 12:00pm-5:00pm with additional hours dependant on need of school and individual availability, other than the Sunday shift hours and schedule are flexible$24.00 per hour plus 4% in lieu5 days sick time after 90 days of employmentOn the job training and cross training into other areas of the schoolPotential to participate in After School Activities20 minutes from downtown VictoriaCampus is on main Bus RoutePrimary Job Objective as a Dorm ParentDorm parents are responsible for ensuring students live in a safe and stable environment, offering assistance to both students and staff through effective facilitation of day-to-day activities. Dorm parents will be part of a specific team while on duty, and as part of an overall larger residence staff team.ResponsibilitiesBuilding a rapport with students to help facilitate open lines of communication for questions, problems, and concernsEnsuring overall student needs are met including health, social well-being, behaviour management,
and emotional supportSupervising evening curfews and morning wakeup procedures and following Lock up and Lights out proceduresConsistently acting as a mentor, supervisor and a positive role model for all studentsBeing an active listener for students experiencing academic and/or personal difficultiesWorking with students to develop a sense of respect for self, others and communityEnsuring that all of the students in their care are aware of the school's safety rules and emergency procedures, (fire, earthquake, medical emergency, lock down, and shutting down gas and water supplies)Structuring and fulfilling duties related to students' daily schedule, including support around uniform needs and health needs ie: ensuring proper uniform is worn dailyTeaching and promoting life skillsEducation, Experience and SkillsMust successfully pass and complete a Ministry Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable children and adultsCPR Level C First Aid certification to be obtained within one month of employmentDiploma in Education, Child & Youth Care or equivalentLeadership experience and experience working in a Boarding School is preferableExperience dealing with people, and in particular, adolescents, sensitively, empathetically, tactfully, consistently and professionally at all timesExcellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skillsClass1,2, or 4 drivers license an assetWe thank all applicants for their interest in this position, however only those applicants that are shortlisted will be contacted.
