Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryReporting to Client Services, the incumbent is responsible for performing various preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and assisting trades staff in their daily work requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesAccompanies and assists trades staff, project leaders, consultants and contractors as requiredMaintains and repairs non-electrical components of light fixtures (bulbs, shades, etc.)Properly disposes of used lamps and maintains adequate stock levels, including ballastsConducts field audits to gather applicable information pertaining the creation and modification of PM routinesPerforms PM inspections on interior/exterior lights, exit lights, washrooms, doors and battery operated smoke detectorsFollows up on deficiencies identified during PM inspections and refers certified trades work to Maintenance Supervisor, applicable trades person and/or client reception for actionCleans pits and drainage areas as requiredCleans and inspects roofs, including drains and guttersCleans and maintains mechanical roomsRemoves graffiti utilizing appropriate products and techniquesPlunges toiletsPerform all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as University and government rules and regulationsMaintains a clean work environmentPerforms other duties as requiredNoteA USP will not perform certified trades workDue to operational requirements,
the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.Required QualificationsHigh school graduation and 3 – 5 years building and maintenance experience requiredCompletion of Building Service Technician course preferableElectrical and/or mechanical aptitude preferableAbility to read, interpret and prioritize work orders, requiredProficiency in the use of the tools of the trade (eg.
