Sheshegwaning First Nation is currently accepting applications for an Educational Assistant. This position is expected to work with the Classroom Teacher(s), and the Native Language Teacher. Occasionally, the educational assistant may be asked to supervise all the students in one of the classrooms but normally his or her primary role will be one of support.Job ResponsibilitiesAssist students with lessons under direct supervision of Classroom TeacherTo participate in all professional activity days or activities and to continue to pursue his or her personal educationTutor individual students or small groups with the work assigned by the teacherPromote the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of the students and help them develop self-esteemEncourage the students to learn appropriate classroom behaviorAssist with literacy and numeracy programmingSupervise the students during recess, lunch hour, and as required (by the Principal/Teacher) in the classroomSupervise the students during visits to the library, to the gym, during field trips both in and outside of the community, cultural events,
and at other times as identified by the principal.Help the students increase their cultural awarenessIn collaboration with the Classroom Teacher, provide instruction and assistance that supports the student in the regular class programOther duties assigned by the principal and/or Classroom TeacherQualifications/RequirementsMust have Child & Youth Worker---CYW or Developmental Services Worker-DSW diploma, and a minimum of 3 years' experience working with children in a school settingExperience in a First Nation school is an assetAdhere to policies and procedures of Sheshegwaning First NationTake direction from teachers and assist with learning programmingEnsure a healthy and secure learning environment for the childrenExcellent verbal, written and communication skillsMust be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and any relevant educational softwareBe able to provide a clean Criminal Reference Check and a clean Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)Location:St. Joseph's Anishinabek School, Sheshegwaning, ON P0P 1X0Preference will be given to qualified members of Sheshegwaning First Nation.
